I was thrilled to hear President-elect Obama (ahhhhhh…feels so good to even type it) promise his daughters a new puppy, but I hope he’ll consider a dog that might not find it as easy to be adopted as a cute puppy. Adult dogs are sometimes discriminated against when people are looking for new pets. I have taken the liberty of screening some of the many adoptable dogs available at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and these are my White House picks:
First, meet Missy. Is there anything more all-American than a black lab?
The girls are likely to want a beautiful dog, as all girls do, so I think that gorgeous Sophie might fit the bill:
Now, in the spirit of reconciliation, they might consider Maverick (I swear, his real name):
But my personal choice as the new First Dog is Andy. Does any dog exude the spirit of “Yes we can” like this eager fellow?

Can’t wait until we can take the “-elect” part off the title!! The thought of our new first family and a rescued pooch in the White House … sweet!

I did hear on the news tonight that President Elect Obama will adopt a rescue dog.
As if I needed any more reasons to love him!
The search for a puppy has been all over the news here in Chicago! I volunteer at PAWS Chicago…great place – it’s completely cageless…check them out at pawschicago.org.
Reps for the Obamas have been in touch with PAWS. Malia has some allergies, so they are looking at breeds like doodles, poodles, bichons, wheaten terriers and portugese water dogs. And from time to time, we do get these breeds in. I think it’s great that they want to rescue.
I’m so excited for those little girls to get their puppy, but even more excited about their Dad’s historic win!
I think for such a historical presidency… maybe there should be a unique white house pet. President Obama could adopt your wayward sheep. This serves two purposes. First it gets the sheep away from your neighborhood. Also it would allow Mr. Obama to give a home to an unwanted animal. And heck if if gets on the first families nerves… they could just make lamb chops out of it… BAAA !!!!
