We will be skyping in to talk about the book, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Oprah is doing a huge Oprah’s Book Club webcast event on Monday, January 26th at 9:00 pm (EST) about David Wroblewski’s The Story of Edgar Sawtelle., and I’ll be skyping in for that as well!
Today, I did a pre-interview with a very nice producer named Denise. She asked me if I’d like to do these skype appearances and I said, “I would LOVE to do skype on Oprah!” while madly googling the term “skype” on my laptop. Honestly, if I learned that skyping was another word for stripping, I would have been game.

So on Friday, I will skype on the show and on Monday night I’ll be involved in this very exciting webcast. I know a lot of my blog readers are dog fanciers and if you haven’t read Edgar Sawtelle, read it this weekend so you can join in the event on Oprah.com.

Comments

  1. OMG OPRAH you gotta get skype and give us a shout out while you on LOL

  2. Mary Lauth says:

SHUT UP,, you are gonna be on OPRAH. You never cease to amaze me. Can’t wait to watch you and your doggies on Friday.

  3. That’s so exciting! & cool!! I’ll definitely be Tivo-ing. I can’t wait to hear your comments about the book and see what the dogs’ reactions will be. I’ll be watching for them to give her the “look”…it’ll be like our little blog-commenters inside joke. :)

  4. Ann-Marie says:

Hey Ann – Great Job getting the Oprah gig. Skyping is so fun, we’ve been doing it with Caitlin since she went to Ireland in 2007. I can’t wait to see you. Friday’s are good for the Leary’s on Oprah.

  5. Kelly Thorpe says:

Ann, that is amazing! I’m setting my DVR to record right now… actually, I’m making my husband do it. LOL!
Anyway, thanks for sharing! I’m excited for you! That is a huge opportunity!
You go girl! Do people still say that?
    Kelly :)

  6. Ann: I think I mentioned to you before just how much I love this book. I am nearly at the end and I am purposely dragging it out for I do not want it to end. For those of you who have not read it…..its about dogs but not in the way that you think. I’m dvr’d up and ready. Looking forward to seeing you, Daphne and Coco!!

  7. Okay, when you mentioned exciting ‘goings on’ you weren’t kidding. OPRAH!!!!!! So, should we assume that Jack and Devin will be on Oprah next Friday???
    Can’t wait to tune in!

  8. Elizabeth Madlem says:

What a coincidence! I borrowed “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle” from a friend this past weekend, started it this morning, and spent most of the afternoon absorbed in the story. The portions of the story written from the canine perspective are fascinating, and the author has a real knack for imagining how a dog thinks, feels, and interprets life. I will watch you on Oprah and also record your appearance to add to my ever-growing list of Leary television appearances in my DVR list.
Monday’s webcast will be especially interesting to listen to because I am in the middle of this book.
I must alert my son’s girlfriend, Amy, to your appearance on Friday’s Oprah with Daphne and Coco. Amy has a chihuahua, Winnie, whom she adores as much as you do your little Elf.
Thanks for giving us notice of these events, Ann!

  9. ARE YOU HAVING FUN YET?
Can’t wait to see you and the girls on Oprah! I am sure she really wants to meet the WOMAN behind Denis!
    Have a great time!

  10. Angela White says:

Yay!! Oprah! This is very exciting. I will be sure to shush the kids and turn the volume way up! I just discovered skype myself, and my sister and I spend hours on it just staring at each other and laughing (she lives three hours away). Have fun Friday and tell Oprah we all say hi!

  11. Will you and the dogs fly to Chicago ? Have they ever flown before ? Will there be other dogs there?
I guess Daphne will tell Coco “These celebrity shows and all the same , no big deal.” LOL
Sorry about all the questions just curious.

  12. Really nice pics, I like especially the first one: it’s so sweet! I would watch you on Oprah but I can’t, as you know. I’ll browse through Oprah site anyway.

  13. Next, I’m looking for an interview with BOTH of you in O. Congrats!

  14. This is BEYOND GREAT!!! CONGRATS! :) Can’t wait to see you and the pups on OPRAH!!!!! HUGE! :) I haven’t read the book yet, but will buy it today and read it! Skype is the BEST! We use it a lot to stay in touch and “hang out” with one of my husband’s best friend. GREAT news and have a blast! :) You ROCK! :)

  15. Ann: I LOVE THIS PHOTO!!!!!!!Gorgeous photo of you and those beautiful girls. Have fun on Oprah. I ask you…whose better than you?

  16. Ann Leary says:

Thanks for all the encouraging words, guys! And, Destini, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who doesn’t know what skyping is all about. I won’t be in Chicago, I will be in our New York apartment speaking into a camera that will be attached to a computer. I’m actually thinking of asking the Oprah people if I can skype from my bed on Monday night, because that’s where I usually am at 9:00. Can you imagine if I dozed off in the middle of the webcast? I guess I better stay seated in a chair.

  17. Wow, congratulations on the Oprah skyping thing! Can’t wait to see you and the dogs.
    : )

  18. Oprah! So cool…really…and I am proud to say I think I recommended this book to you guys awhile ago..now I have my book club reading it, and even got my husband to listen to it in his car on audible, causing him to soften on his “no dogs” edict (still traumatized from loss of his favorite a few years ago) as a result!

  19. Laurie Fullerton says:

    Hi Ann,
Wow!!!! It has been an amazing year for you and your family. My gosh!
    Conratulations!

  20. Congrats!! I’ve got the dvr set & ready to go! Be sure to give a shout out to all your bloggy readers! Or maybe you could do the ole Carol Burnett thing and give us a sign. :)

  21. skype rocks, if you need practice email me ill give u my skpe number lol

  22. It’s so much fun Skyping. I work for a bookstore and we did a book group through Skype last year. So amazing to be able to talk to people all around the world. Have a great time!

  23. That is so exciting! Congrats on the fun opportunity. Soak it in! Thanks for being inspiring.

  24. This picture is from the same shot as your blog cover page? Looks like from the same photo shoot, you look great.

  25. How exciting !! And again, I’ve learned something new….never heard of skyping, but I’ve googled it ( love Google too !! )and now I’m ready to try it…have fun; it’s always great to try new things. Can’t wait to hear ALL about it.

  26. Ann Brekke says:

Wow Ann! How exciting! I’ll keep an eye out for you! Wish you were coming into Chi-town!

  27. That is sooo great! I’ll take time out of my studio to watch. I’ll make my dog Cody watch too. Congratulations!

  28. Now I absolutely must make time for oprah….she has no idea the competition she has invited onto her show! Have fun….looking forward to seeing you skype!

  29. Congratulations Ann!!!!! I am looking forward to watching Oprah today….
Great pic of you and the girls!!!!!

  30. Oh, I hope that Oprah asks you about your other favorite books and adds “See what’s on Ann’s bookshelf” to her website.
    Best wishes!

  31. The big O!!!! Get on with your bad self ~ LOL!
Good luck and have a blast. I think she was very impressed with Denis (he was so well behaved, lol) and I am sure she will love you also. Who knows, with your profession as a writer and being so passionate about books, perhaps you can become a regular on the show with Skype!
If all else fails stick with the dogs ~ Oprah has quite a few I think.

  32. aww Ann you looked so nervous bless your heart but you did great. And you know what that is all that matters, you looked sweet hot and your dogs are adorable!

  33. Have you noticed that when you have DOGS in your blog, there are way more comments than on any other subject?
Never, never say you will go less on dogs and more on other stuff!
    It would never work!
You, Daphne and Coco were total divas today!
    You looked great!

  34. Susan Lucey says:

    Dear Ann,
I liked what you said about dogs on Oprah today. With a just few words I see we are kindred spirits. Being bedbound due to CFS, I have infinite time for intimate observation of my dog and cats. How conscious they are! Please tell me if you have come across other books that really take our understanding to it’s highest level.
Daphne is a lovely name! Could you please tell me what kind of dog she is? I assume she is a mix of some kind. We plan to get another dog both to keep me company and to “rescue’ as well.
    Thank you so very much,
    Susan Lucey

  35. Ann:
I Tivo Oprah every day. I just got home and watched it. Thought you were fantastic! You can tell there is a very special bond between you and Daphne. You both looked fantastic. If I can get home by 8 on Monday, I’ll tune into the Oprah webcast. Good luck to you!

  36. Ann, you were great. If you were nervous at all, you did a good job of channeling that energy to appear enthusiastic about the book. And Daphne, such a mellow sweetie.
Also, purple is a great color on you, and your apartment looks beautiful. You should do an “In House” with Denis.

  37. You looked AMAZING on Oprah and I love how laid back and mellow Daphne is! GREAT job! On a side note, Is your NY apartment used in Rescue Me? It looked familiar to me and my husband said he thinks we saw it on Rescue Me.
Congrats again on Oprah! You Rocked! :)

  38. I thought you were very cool and poised on your skype interview. Good job!
    : )

  39. I wrote a review of Edgar Sawtelle for Helium, com and just put it on one of my lit crit zones. Your Coco looks very like the soft coated wheaten we lost recently.
Guess I’ll have to learn how to skype by Monday.
