Year in Review

Tomorrow will mark the first anniversary of my blog. Today I have decided to do a little retrospective of the year, in photos. As those who have been with me from day one might recall, I didn’t know how to load photos onto the blog in the beginning, so I wrote these rather long-winded entries and was in danger of running out of stuff to write about by week two. Thankfully, I learned how to load the photos and the blog has survived! Here are some of my favorite blog moments in pictures.

Thanks to all of you who read, comment or email me each day. I had no intention of starting a blog last year. I only did it at the suggestion of my publisher. Now I love to blog and have come to think of many of my readers as friends Keep those comments coming. XO Ann

I know Sneakers, but who is the cute dog at the very end? I don’t recall seeing him before.

  2. Janet Taylor says:

Congratulations on one year!!! I really do hope you enjoy blogging, because I really enjoy stopping by and reading about what’s going on! Thanks for letting us look in on all the things going on in your life. I’m actually surprised you tell us so much. And, (dare I say this again…) the pictures are wonderful. I need to take a photography class or something! I’ll leave you with a quote from Dr. Seuss that I’ve always enjoyed. Doesn’t really have anything to do with what you do here, but maybe you and the other blog readers will like it. “Don’t cry because it’s over…Smile because it happened.”

  3. Kelly Thorpe says:

Ann, I love your year in review! I have enjoyed reading your blog so much! Some days it makes me cry… some days it cracks me up and some days it does both!
I love that you let your fans & friends feel appreciated, and thank us for our part in your career! I also love that you are so down-to-earth! You are a big inspiration to me, and YOUR blog keeps me so entertained it reminds ME to blog, too!
Thanks again for such a fun place to visit each day! I am anxiously awaiting your next book AND Rescue Me next week! You guys both just rock!
    Keep the blogs coming…
    Kelly :0)

  4. Ann, Congrats on your one year anniversary. Your blog has been the highpoint of each day. I so look forward to reading each entry, yes, even the poems, and catching up with the Learys. This blog has kept me sane when all around was spinning out of control. I would just point and click to see what the horses, dogs or the unwanted varmint were up to. My daughter was diagnosed with heart failure last May which is when I found your site. I think in a way your blog has been a blessing for me during a very difficult time in my life. Thank you so much for “being” there as my escape. And thank you to the blog friends for their wonderful insights as well. It’s a fun group to belong in.

  5. I just started reading a few months ago but this year in review has me all kinds of curious now. I think I’m going to have to go back and read from the beginning :)
    Congrats on your Blogiversary!

  6. Jane Reedy says:

Thanks to YOU Ann for doing this blog :-) And I love all of the photos!
Your blog is so many wonderful things…fun, interesting, hilarious, thoughtful, educational, clever, artistic…I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy it and look forward to it each day. So glad you do this and that I ran across it.
All of the sharing that goes on in this blog is like getting a gift of laughter, learning, etc. each time I read it. Thankyou everyone!

  7. Elizabeth Madlem says:

    Ann:
It’s been a joy to be part of your one-year-old blog. Getting to know more about you and your interests and learn from your vast store of knowledge is fun and informative.
Regarding the terrific photos you posted in this entry:
I paused for a moment of silence for your dearly-departed pets. Within the last two years, I have lost two much-cherished 16-year-old cats, so you have my deepest sympathies.
Where is Denis and what exactly is he doing in the photo in which he is holding some sort of racket in some sort of storage closet? Is that an elevator he’s standing in front of?
Thanks for posting these photos. They reminded me of the funny, sad, entertaining, and fascinating stories which accompanied them when they were first posted.

  8. Elizabeth Madlem says:

I forgot to mention the photo of Tim. Sweet Tim. How can we not love Denis when he’s sentimental about a chidhood toy? Especially a toy with such an interesting backstory.

  9. Happy Anniversary! Your blog doesn’t look a day over one. Wish I had been introduced to it from day one though. I blame Terri Gross and NPR radio for not having you on sooner.
Thanks for making me smile and laugh and cry and think with all that you post. Here’s to another year of fantastic photos and witty writing, Ann! Cheers!

  10. Thankyou for the up date, as you were away just recently and I needed my Ann fix I dug deep into your archives, being new to the blog I was sad to have missed some of the great entere’s and comments. You have some of the most interesting people here. And your openness with them is amazing this is trully a web family and I hope you keep doing this blog for many years to come I wrote a poem awhile back so i will not bore you with that again.Congrats on your year you are pasionate honest person who has taught me and many so much THANKYOU ALL

  11. Love, love, love this blog. Yours is the only blog I follow. The combination of your wit, talent for writing, country living and sassy husband strikes a chord (I have two of the four myself – living in the country WITH a sassy husband). Happy anniversary! And thanks for all your sharing.

  12. Happy blog anniversary!!! I enjoyed watching these photos. I didn’t watch the most of them during the year.

  13. Candy in Chicago says:

Ann, Bless your beloved cat, love that last picture. It does amaze me how much I have grown with the blog myself. And you say you don’t stay with things, ha!

  15. I realize I should have put dates with photos so that newcomers could read the entries that came with the photos. Way too much work. Christine, the dog was our dear old Pongo. If you type his name in search box you will read about him. Elizabeth, the photo of Denis was taken when we were staying at a very posh hotel in LA for the Emmys, but they put us on a floor that was under construction and had no elevator so we had to walk through all these linen closets to get to the service elevator, then walk through the kitchen, etc, in order to leave the hotel. It was in September. I really should go back and put dates with the photos.

  16. Happy Birthday! Ann, you and the readers of this blog are very special and important for me even though I don’t know you directly. Carry on like that! It’s night now in Italy, so I’m going to sleep, with a smile and waiting for new Learys adventures… Greetings!

  17. Happy Blogiversary! I’ve just finished Outtakes From a Marriage, An Innocent, A Broad and your husband’s Why We Suck and I just wanted to say it’s felt like I’ve been spending a lot of time with your wonderful family! Your books were fantastic, and heartfelt and your husband’s book was so funny. It’s so nice to read about how much he loves you and you him. After I finished your books, I went looking for more and found your great blog! Thanks for sharing so much of your writing with us. Happy happy blogiversary!

  18. Ann…Congratulations!!! I just came across your blog a few months ago…but have enjoyed reading every day….you are such a talented writer and I really appreciate your thoughts and insight!
    Looking forward to many more!!!

  19. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!
Gosh – a whole year has gone by already!
You are such an inspiration to so many of us. I have returned to reading books again, after many years of not having time…..I am learning to appreciate poetry in a way I never have before. You have provided a platform for so many of us to share our insights, fears and tears, love and laughter and so much more….
Thank you Ann, for being you….
May God bless you and yours for many, many years to come.

  20. Happy Anniversary !!! I’ve been a fan since the beginning and have enjoyed it all–love the animal stories and pictures, and have learned to enjoy some poetry….this really has become a new group of friends to me. Thank you so much for sharing, and for allowing all of us to share our own little stories and experiences.

  21. There is absolutely nothing that I can add to everything that’s already been said except for another “Thank you, Ann.” Thanks, too, to my fellow travelers who help make this a special place. Discovering this blog a few months ago was a happy accident; now I look forward to reading it just about every day and feel privileged to be amongst such thoughtful, literate, insightful, and funny folks. (And I’m even okay with being one of the only guys who posts here regularly!) Ann, if you keep writing, we’ll keep reading….

  22. Happy Anniversary, and I join the others in thanking you for my daily dose of a wicked good life!

  33. Guadalupe M Pankratz says:

    Dear Ann:
I did not know your dog{s} passed.
Here is an excerpt of a poem by who else but Neruda..

No, my dog used to gaze at me,
paying me the attention I need,
    the attention required
to make a vain person like me understand
that, being a dog, he was wasting time,
but, with those eyes so much purer than mine,
he’d keep on gazing at me
with a look that reserved for me alone
all his sweet and shaggy life,
always near me, never troubling me,
    and asking nothing.”
    Pablo’s real name was
Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, was born on 12 July, 1904….. {and passed 1973, same year my first born arrived – and that was one cute baby -)(sorry)
    And he was gifted!
    He wrote:
“I grew up in this town, my poetry was born between the hill and the river, it took its voice from the rain, and like the timber, it steeped itself in the forests.”
I did not realize you started your blog one year ago. I only ‘found’ DL end of December, the day before my final on Chemistry and there was no more room on my head for more Chemistry review and saw his book “Why We Suck”, the content happy face on the cover and started reading up. Forgot about Chemistry exams..

  34. Happy 1 Year Blog Anniversary!!
They said it would never last……ha! :)
Thank you for all the laughs and fun this past year. I look forward to many more.

  35. Angela White says:

    Dear Ann,
Happy Anniversary!! I love your blog. It’s been so nice getting to know you, and I appreciate how you have shared with us over the past year. It amazes me how you can bring us to tears one day, and then have us peeing our pants with laughter the next. Thank you for that!

  36. Happy Anniversary! I’m just sorry that I just found it last week, & don’t know if I’ll ever have time to go back & read them all!
As for the pics, that’s so sweet that the bear is Denis’. What a softy.
My comment on the one w/ the pillows in the hallway was what’s w/ all the pillows, & it looks like Denis has to pee really bad! lolol Glad you explained it.
Keep up the great sharing. I love how you touch on so many different things.

  37. Happy Happy One Year Anniversary, Ann! Can scarcely believe it’s been a year, and then peeking at Cliff Notes of images, I suppose so!
Have loved your blog this first year, and hope to continue enjoying it for many more.
Hope it’s as fun for you to compose as it is for us to read.
Make a wish and blow out the candle…

  38. Happy Anniversary Ann! I love your blog and I especially enjoyed your retrospective in photos! My hubby and I have four cats, so I especially loved your last picture. I don’t blog or tweet, but I have enjoyed your insight and stories this past year. It is generous of you to include us in your daily life and for that we are grateful. Congrats on a great year and we all look forward to your sharing many more of life’s up and downs with us!
