Springing into Action

Thanks to all who participated in the breast cancer discussion, and special thanks to Ziggy who is going through so much and still found the time to write such a delightful, insightful and informative blog.

We’ve had a beautiful week and I’ve been doing some spring cleaning. Yesterday I decided to give Mark a makeover.  It’s been a little muddy here and he’s grown quite the winter coat.  My plan was to wash and clip him. The washing and drying took longer than I had anticipated due to mud and overall shagginess, so I’ll have to do the clipping today.  Thought I’d give you a little glimpse of my beautiful steed before his makeover began.  If you can’t view video, click here.

I found that music in YouTube’s free music library and now want to use it again but can’t remember what it’s called. Does anyone know how to find out the name of the music attached to a video? Or does anyone know the name of that delightful ditty?

  2. Thanks for posting the honest pictures of Mark! I have a “white” mare but she usually looks like him. Maybe she was a pig in a former life…

  3. Ann, the snippet of music sounds like it might be the opening bars to the Gershwins’ “‘S Wonderful”, but I haven’t a clue as to the performer.

It’s been great weather in Connecticut this week for all sorts of spring-cleaning activities, including, apparently, horse washing!

    Alan, that’s it! Thanks!

  5. It has been Gorgeous! All the horse at the barn where my daughter ride are covered in Mud too they look so cute!!!! We were looking at a house last week and the sale comes with 3 horses(sad) one of them is a shetland pony and my daughter is bugging me and bugging me….. I told her we don’t have the time or the money and she should go get a job!!!
    .. she is 9. ;)

  6. The weather really has been fantastic–great for all kinds of great outdoor fun. Our first spring barbecue, after standing out there in a winter coat and hat…..rejuvenating to the body and mind.

I also loved your “supervisor” making sure she got into the shot as well!!!

Even though it is my sleeping in day, I just couldn’t do it. I have spring fever!

I’ve already told you about my first horse who I christened “Dirty Little Girl” — she lived to eat and roll in the mud. She didn’t mind storms one bit, they just brought the two things she loved most — green grass and mud.

Mark is quite the sight — great video Ann, and would love to see the washing, and the “after”. If he is anything like my girl, the first thing he’ll do when you let him go is roll in the mud again. Be sure to capture that footage too.

I think the lighter color the horse the more they love to get dirty, it probably has to do with survival in the wild.

Ann, Fess was a doer and a dream come truer in real life. He felt like he was the luckiest guy in the world. He oozed charm, with a hint of steely resolve, and woody undertones. Like his wines he possessed exceptional purity, texture and depth. He loved his life. He was a big man, in every sense.

In this interview Fess gives advice to actors, and at the end he makes a very touching statement that we could all take to heart — definitely words to live by.

    Nice spring flowers…

    Mark needs a bath!!
And good to see little Holly, who is in the groove of things, making sure all things are done properly…. she is one sweet dog…

I did not know who Fess was. Now I do. Sleeping in a shed…doing his acting thing, enduring like that. I suppose we all have our calling.

Alan, the spring fever did not get to you yet?. It is all over the place here in California. I suppose that we are done with the gloomy stuff.

Oh, I found this long shirt, that is made out of wood pulp (yes, this is not a typo). Lovely colors!! and now I need to read more about it before I wear it and it is time to launder it. Wood pulp? Like what, like paper??
It is Green.. carbon imprint issues and Green is in.

  9. So that’s what a white horse looks like when he needs a shower and a shave! Loved how Miss Holly made an appearance at the end. She is not one to be overlooked. After the weather you guys have had, it must feel good to be in tee shirts and out in the sun. We have had lovely weather here in southern California, too. It has been in the mid to high 70s, and I have been inspired to work in the garden a bit. I love sunshine, I love Springtime! You’re right, Lupe–Spring Fever is everywhere! I’m going to Newport Beach this afternoon with a friend for a bite to eat. The perfect place to be on a day like today.

  10. It is cold, windy, and snowy here today. Pure crap. Needless to say I am not a happy camper, but I have been spring cleaning in the house, I have the spirit. Mary Lynn, Fess Parker will always be Daniel Boone for me. When I was little I was very sure I would marry his son, Israel one day.
