Last night Denis took my sister Meg and me to the opening festivities for the Tribeca Flm Festival. It was a great night. We saw many old friends and it was the first time Meg had attended an event like that with us so the two of us were cracking up the whole time that Denis was doing stuff like this:
And we were doing stuff like this:
Okay, now you know. I only have one fancy party skirt. And I’ve been photographed in it a million times. The same skirt, boots and jacket, actually. Well, they’re fancy!
Who was at the party? Well let’s see, there was Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, John McEnroe, Brian Williams and his lovely wife Jane, Martha Stewart, Kristy Turlington, Ed Burns, Anna Wintour, Graydon Carter (it was a Vanity Fair party) and of course, Meg Seminara!
Meg and I are taking her son Tommy and his friend Eli sightseeing today and I’ll get a photo with sis.
Now, time to finish homework. I have class tonight!

Sounds like a fun evening. And, Ann, not to worry about your wardrobe; in just about every picture I’ve ever seen of Denis at these fancy events, he’s typically wearing the same pair of black jeans and dark leather jacket. Not a criticism, mind you, just an observation. As long as you guys had a good time, that’s what’s important.
(I have this vision of DeNiro at the party saying, “You talkin’ to me?”)
I wish your sister would have posed with you and hubby. It sounds like everyone had a fun night!
Ann with regards to wearing ‘the same…’ I’m going to a wedding in June and struggling to find something to wear. My husband just opens his closet, selects suit, shirt and different tie and he is good to go. Women have it much harder. It seems like everyone knows if we wear the same dress, shoes etc.
Is the guy next to DL security? Does DL need security? Alan has made a very good point about the DL wardrobe, he seems rather fixed on his style. I can not believe your sister did not get out there in the mix of things, my sister would have been all over it. Question: did you get your e-mail fixed? I may have a new e-mail address and don’t want to be blocked. Your hair looks longer in the pic?
That guy was working the event, not Denis
Looks like you had a wonderful time! And how nice that Meg was able to join you.
Is it still a rush to get photographed like that? It happened to me once, and it was a bit bewildering, but at the same time, indescribably cool. Photographers yelling my name (how did they know my name??) and flashbulbs everywhere. But I imagine it either gets to be routine or old…?
Out of that A list…I was most excited about Brian Williams and Martha Stewart. I love Brian, and Martha just seems like a nice person. But they all can’t hold a candle to that Meg Seminara!
PS – Those boots are still different from the boots you wore in January, and the patent boots you wore to Pilobolus…yes, I’m keeping track, and yes, still very much enamored of your shoe collection!
Nice photo of the front entrance!
So funny about you and your sister enjoying DL’s celebrity status. It must be comical to witness when you both know the “real” DL. Nice outfit too, Ann. Perfectly rockin’ attire for that venue.
Meg will be signing autographs too before she knows it!
Ann, your fancy party duds were amazing. You were rocking those boots! If you know what looks good on you and you feel great wearing it, why not? Like most women I have a closet full of clothes and tend to wear the same favorite things over and over. And your husband seems to know what style looks good on him, too, because he always looks great.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Oooh, one of my most favorite singers, Rob Thomas was also at the Vanity Fair party! He and his wife are really into animal rescue too. I’m a big fan of his.
Ann, As always, you look great! If I could pull off that skirt like you do, I’d wear it more than once, too! And Meg, I hope you had big fun! Enjoy your day sightseeing with the guys. (By the way, I’m VERY curious as to what class you’re taking….)
Tribeca Flem Festival? Just kidding . . . know you meant Film. Say hi to Bobby and Harvey for me!
You look great, and I am also guilty of wearing my favorite Nudie Suit too often. I’m not as bad as Jamie Nudie who has worn the same Gram Parsons’ black jacket I made her to 95% of the events she has attended in the last 6 or 7 years. It looks great on her though, and my handiwork isn’t half bad if I do say so myself. Other designers have copied it, which is flattering, but also pisses me off.
It is weird that woman wear 10% of their wardrobe 90% of the time . . . I really think we are more in love with the idea of clothes, but are creatures of habit and comfort.
I still feel guilty for not stopping for photographs as I rushed through the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton (Golden Boot not Golden Globe Awards.) I was trying to co-ordinate a shoot and was really under the gun, though I had changed into my “Affairs Wear” — that is what Bobbie Nudie called it.
I told the folks I’d be back for photos later but never made it. It is really hard to work behind the camera and in front of it. I am much more comfortable behind the camera.
kc-
rob and his wife are really involved with pets alive, in middletown, ny … a great rescue organization!
Ann you look gorgeous you always do the skirt, and boots look great on you!!! So glad you had a great time and get that photo with Meg!
ps….. go back to your chinese homework it’s not easy ya know!
Lynne is right, you are suppose to tell us which class.
What fun! So glad you’re having a nice visit with your sis and her son. : )
What a fun evening to share with Meg. Love the glass/metal? spheres on the steps. Any good films coming up? Classes….hmmm. How about vet tech stuff or red cross/EMT stuff. I noticed (via facebook) you participated in the emergency drill day in you hamlet. Or it could be a business class for a new endeavor of yours. It will be exciting to finally find out what the homework is all about. Have a great day exploring with Meg and nephew.
And the boots and skirt are fabulous! Oh, and I’m intrigued that your mystery class involves “homework” … hmm …
Hey! Looks like you had a super fun night, and now I know why you weren’t at the American Poetry Foundation Event at Alice Tully Hall. Half expected to see you there, it was amazing. Meryl Streep, Sting, Julian Schabel, Gabriel Byrne, Alan Cummins, Matt Dillon Roseanne Cash, and more, all reading great poems and talking about poetry and prose and how it fits into their lives. Very cool. And fun. You would have loved it, but see you were out hobnobbing too!! Was a great night for it. Reminded me of the ASAP event, but a bit longer poems! And don’t forget to blog about that, it’s coming up!
Ann – You look “mahvelous”, as always. So glad that you & Meg and the rest of the crew are having so much fun.
KC – I’m a Rob Thomas fan also. I love his lyrics and his voice, and now that I learned he’s an animal lover, I have more reasons to like him.
Candy – I read online today that Rescue Me starts June 29. Yippee!!!!
John, I was dying to go to that poetry event. Nice to hear from someone who attended — sounds like it was a great time!
This being a Mac, or me lacking skills, is stopping me from sending a link to some 10 photos of the couple at the event up on top. Nice photos. I ALSO thought it was from some other event, as the clothing was the same… till I read the date.
Well.
So latter on today, I will post the link to the photos (on my laptop).
Thanks Louise.
Louise, email me at [email protected] and tell me where your seats are …
Alan,
Thanks for the heads up about Ann’s appearance on the Friday show. I looked and thought that the station wasn’t carried in Westport. Thanks to you I can tune in and see “our girl”!
Bev and Louise……My husband and I and friends are also going to the Rescue Me Tour. We are going on Saturday night—sitting 4th row center orchestra. It would be fun to meet other blog friends there..my husband hears me talk about the blog and people here–would be nice for him to meet some.
Sorry–I assumed you knew I meant the sat show in New York…
Ann,
I LOVE the photo of you and DL. You both look so cute and happy!
I think Mary Lynn is probably correct, and you are taking a taxidermy class! Good luck with that!
Ann – you looked ravishing – I am kissing butt a bit but you do have the greatest yams. I love that long lean look. Something I don’t have………yuk yuk. Hope you all had a wonderful time. There is nothing like Tribeca. The hubby and I always say – if we’re going to put our money somewhere – lets do it downtown.
Wow, what fun, how amazing to be able to do something like that with your sister
And FYI if I had your legs I would wear a short skirt and those boots ALL the time. You twp make a lovely couple!
…and this is what happens when one does not proofread. I meant, “you TWO”. Argh.

Ann, did you see the article on the Tribeca festival with a pic of DeNiro and his wife. At the end of the article is a lovely picture of you and Denis, except, Ouch! they identified you as Anna. Doesn’t change for a minute what a terrific picture it is tho.
Great Photos.

Don’t feel bad, Ann. Not only did the online version of The Daily Mail refer to you as “Anna”, they identified your husband as “controversial comedian Dennis [sic] Leary.”
So, is there a clone couple somewhere out there named Dennis and Anna Leary that we don’t know about?
Some people cannot spell…

My favs are 4 and 6
I too think it was nice of them, however, not to mention your age. They did blab everyone else’s. Wrong name, but no age….I’d be ok with that, I think, lol.
Looks like fun! Wish I had a sister like you!
Ann and Denis definitely get the coolest looking couple award. Effortlessly stylish . . . love the black nylons with the boots, with the colors in the skirt that pick up the color of you and your husbands’ hair, eyes, shirt and denim.
I don’t know if you put that much planning into it, but you complement each other perfectly.
Harvey Keitel looks really good too — I love his grey hair and glasses with a sleek black suit.

Wireimage is a good place to go for photos, but you can’t enlarge them from the thumbnails.
Ann, you look like an 18 year old. I guess Holly keeps you young.
Anna Wintour is a skinny minny, isn’t she. And, really, should Diane Von Furstenberg be wearing a mini? Jeepers. It’s time she donated those mini’s to Goodwill.
Aislinn — So funny. I love Diane and would be delighted to find one of her vintage wrap dresses in Goodwill (one of my favorite stores — basically the only place I have bought clothes this year), but her choice to this party really missed the mark.
Unless she was going for a “my dog ate a box of crayolas and puked all over my tunic” look. I agree a little more length and a belt perhaps would have worked wonders.
The Lupe link is wonderful, my favorite photo is #6. I think Ann got the space between her front teeth fixed because she was sick of people comparing her to a young Lauren Hutton.
If I had been invited to this party (in my dreams), I think I would have ended up talking to John McEnroe, and freaking out all night about what to say to Harvey Keitel. If I had worn a Nudie Suit (and I would of course) I think Diane might come over to talk to me. I’d tell her she looks smashing!
I think Ann and Denis should host a chat for those of us who want to look 20 years younger. Surely there’s a secret and I know it doesn’t involve the knife. Is there an all-purpose moisturiser that we don’t know about? Vitamin E? Acai berries? Ginseng? What is it?
Oh, and Mary Lynn, I don’t think Harvey Keitel is such a great guy. I read Lorraine Bracco’s autobiography, and according to her, he was no picnic. I think he’s a whackadoodle.
i also read Lorraine Bracco’s autobiography. It so totally changed my opinion of Harvey Keitel. I wouldn’t want to see one of his movies now. I also just read Hellraisers (about Richard Harris, Peter O’Toole, Richard Burton and Oliver Reed). It just doesn’t pay to know too much about entertainers. I feel so differently about them now.
I’m afraid Ann’s (and Denis’) secret might be good old fashioned genes, and compatibility (which is code for good — well, compatibility — if you catch my drift) . . . so rare these days.
Ever since Tony Curtis said on Sunday he wants to do a gangster film, I’ve been trying to come up with a good part he could play with Harvey Keitel. Two Jewish Gangsters — maybe the Bugsy Siegel story could be retold, and we could stick to the facts this time. . . Bugsy (for those of you who don’t know) DID NOT invent Las Vegas.
Maybe the Moe Dalitz story — of course he lived to age 90 and was beloved — not as colorful as getting your eyes shot out at age 40 in Beverly Hills.
http://www.1st100.com/part2/dalitz.html
I see what you are saying about Harvey — My first boyfriend (an aspiring actor/singer/artist/writer) was sort of obsessed with Mr. Keitel, and he was wackadoodle too. Makes for a good story, though.
Sometimes, I think I should write that true story (Dick, that’s what I called him — he also worshipped Richard Burton — and Me), definitely stanger than fiction.
Oh, for you dog people — I nearly saw a beautiful dog hit by not one, but two cars today. Here’s what happened. It was cool and windy, and see a dog dart out into traffic chasing an empty water bottle that went skidding and bouncing along. The dog caught it, the first car stopped, the dog backtracked to the curb, the second car stopped narrowly missing him. On the sidewalk was his owner with a leash in her hand. The dog immediately sat for her, and she put the leash on. I think what happened is the dog was off the leash and the water bottle blew by — the dog assumed his owner had thrown it — and instinctively fetched. Just one of those things. So keep your dog on his leash always when alongside traffic.
My Facebook Fortune Cookie fortune — “Distance yourself from the vain.” That’s heavy.
My real (one I ate) Fortune Cookie fortune — “You will be showered with Good Luck.” Yay!!! Now that is what I call a fortune!!!
I’m not fond of the warning fortunes, or the snarky observation fortunes, though I do like funny ones like “pretend to keep reading this fortune, until someone else picks up the check.”
On the vain note, Jill Curtis says she stopped shopping because there is only so much shopping you can do (so true), and she realized she could save one, or two, or even three horses with the cost of a pair of fancy shoes. I’m not saying women shouldn’t own a closet full of great shoes (‘cuz I do), but at some point enough is enough.
I’m a big fan of vintage clothes — some of my favorite pieces were 20 years old when I bought them 30 yeaars ago . . . great quality, great designs, bought for a few bucks . . . I still wear them today.
So I guess I totally have the wrong mindset to be a fashion designer . . . maybe I’m a Communist, but our Capitalist Consumer society is pretty messed up . . . blame it on the vain, blame it on the fortune cookie — straight from Red China, I’m sure.
