Win Valuable Prizes!

I’ve been having problems with new photo software, so I thought that today we’d have ourselves a quiz.  It’s actually a sort of scavenger hunt.  I will post a photo that is from the blog archives and ask some questions.  The first person to get all the question right will get signed copies of both my books. I know that many of you probably have the books and those of you who don’t apparently don’t want them. NONETHELESS, it’s the thrill of the hunt and the possible triumph of winning the game that makes it fun!

So, here we go.

3) How did the above cat ask for his supper? a) by purring, b) by rubbing up against  my leg, c) by sinking his teeth into my ankle, d) all of the above

5) Who made this adorable children’s toy? a) Steiff b) Build-a-Bear, c) Santa’s elves, d) Aunt Betty

Comments

  1. 1. broken egg, seen by DL on porch
    2. Sneakers
    3. Sneakers did all of the above but was known for going for the ankles big time. Esp. the hockey boys.
    4. the mouse in the house/ sticky paper ( think On that part)
    5. Aunt Betty made Tim for DL
    6 Uncle Aenis
see, I have been paying attention.

  2. Oh boy, I really hope I win, I will put your books with my book from the other Candace.

  3. Win Prizes! Valuable prizes!! I’m in! I don’t have either of your books, but would love them, so here I go:

1.The mother bird may have laid an egg to close to the edge of the nest and it fell onto the porch. Denis witnessed it as he was having his morning coffee and a smoke.
    2.D) Sneakers
    3.D) All of the above
4.Vermin aka The Mice. It was time to take action. The Leary’s declared war after the incident with the broken furnace and the attempted blowing up of the house by those furry little vermin, um, I mean, mice.
    5.D) Aunt Betty
6.D/4) Uncle Aenis, but in the blog that day you spelled it Uncle Aeneas. Not sure which is right but I wanted to make sure I had both down. Maybe it was a trick question?!?

Ohhhh, can’t wait for the results. I’m in suspense! I hope I won!!!

  4. Ann Leary says:

    Ooops. It’s Aeneas.

  5. Wish I could play but i am currently hungover.

  6. Aislinn says:

I can’t play ’cause I haven’t been around long enough, but I love the name “Aeneas!”

  7. Aislinn says:

Bev, don’t leave us hangin’ over your hangover…

  8. amydaugustine says:

    I love games!

    1. An egg escaped the nest and wound up broken on the porch floor. This scene of carnage was witnessed by the Twitterer We Shall Not Name who was lauded by Oprah.

    2. D) Sneakers

    3. D) All of the above

    4. Vermin/The attack of the mice. Forced the otherwise animal-loving Leary family to take action to rid the house of the mouse.

    5. D) Aunt Betty (I see we have a pattern going here….)

    6. 4 (or D) Uncle Aenis. This story still makes me laugh, and believe me I have read it many times.

  9. Megan H. says:

    1. was a Hawk involved?
    2. Rum Tum Tugger( would love that name for our next cat!)
    3. Bit the ankles(could picture my cat doing that to me =(.
    4. Poison! Poor little thing. =)
    5. Aunt Betty
    6. Uncle Aenas.

Love the blog about your children……….time goes by too fast! Love the horse pics also!

  10. So much has happened this week, and I missed it! We had some trying times the past few days – all good now, but it cut into my online social time!

I love the foal! Absolutely the cutest thing ever. I’m in love. I said that already.

Seems most everyone answered already! We have had 2 mice in our house, both brought in by Monster, our cat, caught in the enclosed porch. Our cat at my mom and dad’s is also called Sneakers, and is older than dirt! But still alive and well, she’s got to be pushing 20 years old.

Off to ride Zeus before Arliss and Madeleine make their way to TMF for lessons this afternoon, but I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and safe travels!

  11. Mary Lynn says:

Guess you gotta get up pretty early, or be on the East Coast to get a shot in this contest.

You know, I’ve been pretty forgiving when it comes to all the great stuff the locals get to participate in, but uh . . . well, since Candy suggested “My Antonia” which I love (are we ever going to discuss it?) I’m going to be a gracious loser (again), and conceed.

Lupe, can you join me (where have you been?) in a big UFFFFD?!

  12. geez…. i checked the blog before work. no new post. i look again now, and it’s too late. i coulda beena contenda!!

  13. Missed it! But I have your books—just not SIGNED!The winner is in for a great time reading them!

Leary family—Have a wonderful weekend and Devin, much happiness to you as you take the next big step in your life.

  14. The West Coasters had to be early risers to get in on this one! Oh, well. I’m impressed with all the correct answers–the kids have been paying attention in class! Hope everyone has a great Memorial weekend. Congratulations to Devin on her high school graduation. It’s only just begun.

  15. Catherine says:

I’m also impressed with all the correct answers. Makes me want to go back and re-read some previous blogs. My retention of details stinks.

  16. Kristin says:

Good job Candy and others. Sorry not getting up at 4 to answer. Great trip down memory lane. Getting the boys off to Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge this weekend. Blessed solitude will reign! Have a great weekend Leary family.

  17. Little late to the contest as well, but I’m so glad that Uncle Aeneas was brought up again because that always “cracks” me up!
(and I love that little Tim)

  18. Susan O says:

I’m a more recent reader of the blog and so I didn’t know all the answers but I did go looking. And I will have to spend a lot more time reading back posts, such great stuff.
I won’t win the books, don’t know all the answers and others have answered first anyway. But I just wanted to mention that I don’t have either book and it’s not that I don’t want them. It’s just that I get my books from the library. And the libraries have lots of copies of your books. (Oh, maybe I should mention that I am a librarian, and we promote library use but still covet books.) I would love a couple of signed copies. Maybe, someday.

  19. Wow, looks like Audrey and I had a horse race this morning, rather appropriate for this blog I would say. It is a perfect day here in chicago, I hope you have one for graduation tomorrow all of you with graduates, much love. xoxxo.

  20. Wow you guys are good.. have to get up pretty early to catch up with Candy.. Have a great weekend everyone!!

  21. Barbara says:

All you West Coasters……I’m here on the East Coast and still didn’t even get close. Ann, guess you have to give me advance warning of a contest so that I can call in sick that day “cough cough” to even have a chance, lol. They do tend to frown on me checking out the blog when I should be checking out the answers my students are giving ! Congratulations to early bird Candy…….have a great weekend all and remember to thank a veteran and especially the family of one who made the ultimate sacrifice for us…..

  22. Christine says:

    1. An egg fell out of the nest and the mother bird had a very sad expression on her face as she tried to understand what had happened to her baby. Denis witnessed the whole thing on your front porch.

    2. D…SNEAKERS…tough cat that made hockey players run from your barn screaming like LITTLE GIRLS!!!

    3. Although Sneakers did all of the things you mentioned, he was notorious for sinking his teeth into your ankles.. C is the answer. I believe you also said he would show up at your house when you made bacon…..smart kitty!

    4. The mice almost blew up your home. They were snipping the wire on your furnace which could have made the wire spark. A spark would have had serious consequences for your home. This did NOT happen. MOUSE TRAPS were used to rid your home of these rodents. PLEASE, PLEASE GET ANOTHER CAT!!!! Name it Nike.

    5. D….Aunt Betty…DL stayed at her home once for a long period of time and the stay was not what he thought it would be… while folks were in Ireland.

    6. A Uncle Colin.

Because I always lose at these things I decided to add extra information for EXTRA CREDIT! :) I know it’s pathetic. Summer is the time I can finally sit down and read books….thought the extra information could help my score.

Have a great weekend and Happy Graduation to Devin! Enjoy!

  23. Mary Lynn says:

Christine — hmmm, an Uncle Colon, and an Uncle Anus??? Too funny!

  24. Yay I am back. I have missed quite a few posts and i wont bother trying win since I think you already have it all sorted.
I know you all missed me and I will save the time going through the comments answering all the Where is Tammy
Gosh I hope she is ok questions and just say I missed you all too.

  25. Oh Ann,
Just read your latest tweet—-thinking of you!Happy, proud tears, too, I hope…

And Tammy–hi!—Good to see you back!

  26. 1. Egg fell out of nest, Denis witnessed event from porch.
    2. Sneakers
    3. All of above
    4. Vermin and removing all mice from home
    5. Aunt Betty
    6. Uncle Aenis

  27. Alice Irene says:

    Congratulations on your daughter’s graduation.

This out of context, but here goes. I saw your tweet a while back on you steel cut oats “burnout.”

Try using a electric rice steamer. You may have to experiment with the water/oats ratio (and a sprinkle of the salt of life). Especially if you prefer a chewy oatmeal over creamy.

  28. Many happy returns on Devin’s graduation today. Thinking of you on this big day for you all … congratulations all around. : )

  29. You guys are excellent at paying attention. I’m not – thus my lack of participation. Good job!!!!!!!!!!

  30. The video below is from 1944. A friend sent it to me – little did this friend know that I was practicing these moves just last night. Watch the whole thing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=BNR74UCidBI&feature=player_embedded

  31. Very funny, Kim! But isn’t that video amazing? And kind of bizarre? Grabbing the apple in her teeth at the end — incredible!

  32. Congrats to all those who did so well on the quiz, by the way — cheers to Candy!

  33. Barbara says:

Oh Kim…..how I envy you !!!! I would definitely break or badly hurt something ( or lots of somethings ) if I practiced those moves !! You’re a very lucky woman…..a limber little minx, lol. :)

  34. Arliss – extremely bizarre.

  35. It’s been a while, but I think I’ve seen some of those positions in the Kama Sutra.

  36. Mary Lynn says:

Kim, love the video. I have the opposite problem (?) My spine has absolutely no curvature to it whatsoever, I can’t even do a backbend, or any dance that involves sticking your butt out, which explains why my hip hop career fizzled — I do a mean pogo though!

I know I’m venturing into TMI territory, but what the heck, the room went pretty quiet here this weekend, so who can I offend? I’m developing that tragic older white woman syndrome where my belly in front is actually rounder than my derrier in back.

Oh, and I’m beginning to look like I swallowed my lips too.

I still got a little bit of soul left, but I sure don’t look it. . . this has got to be the lamest music video EVER — Puka shells but no pogo.

  37. Mary Lynn says:

These poor misguided youngsters are confusing punk/new wave with heavy metal, but god bless ‘em for proving that mosh pit etiquette needs no translation. Watch, learn, enjoy . . .

  38. Mary Lynn says:

Thank God we have Pee Wee and Cowboy Curtis to show us how it is really done!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJZx58BtmAc&feature=related

  39. Mary Lynn: I am a HUGE fan of PeeWee. Huge. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (June 1st) for PeeWee’s Playhouse on Broadway. I believe he is doing a 6 week gig and I’ll be on the tele for sure getting the tickets. Thanks for the vid. I knew you would like those acrobatic Ross sisters too – wild.
