A Little Performance

Yes, We’re still practicing the skateboard and ball.

Why must we we work so tirelessly at these difficult and dangerous tricks? Because we know that some day, some glorioius day in the not too distant future, we will be asked to appear on this show:

Comments

  1. Too funny! My favorite moment occurs starting at about 1:14 of the video, when Daphne approaches the ball, appears to briefly weigh her options, and then emits a sizable yawn. (“Me? Jump on the ball? You’re kidding, right?”)

And remember, kids, always wear your helmet when you go skateboarding.

  2. love it! my favorite part is holly’s little trusting face as she rolls backwards on the skateboard…..i know it was all about the food, but the expression is great.

  3. Mary Lynn says:

Man Hands? Am I missing something? I experiencing a very icky part of getting older — my skin is becoming thinner and more translucent and my veins are getting bigger and more pronounced! Ewwww . . . gross! It is really freaking me out, and of course, there is no cure . . . unless I wear gloves like Phyllis Diller which I am totally considering.

  4. Alan – I thought exactly the same. Fun video. Sending good vibes your way Ann for a great final grade. I see there is another Kim posting. I’ll put an LI after my name. Geez – now my name looks like a chinese side-dish.

  5. I’m with Alan, I thought Daphne was so cute with her nervous yawn. Holly is getting so big and coming along with the tricks. She’ll be riding up and down to sidewalk in no time!

  6. Wow, Miss Holly is really demonstrating great balance on that thing. Maybe I need to get a big ball like that because I’m one big klutz. (maybe it’s my size 10 Bozo feet)

I don’t see the man hands either. But I do see a very cute belt.

  7. That is so cute! I also love Holly’s little trusting face as she goes backwards on the skateboard. And I love Daphne’s yawn, too! I hope we get to see more performances, you guys are getting really good!

  8. Oh goodness, the baby is getting so big! This was a wonderful use of three minutes. Who is that pretty music by?

  9. Aw. How cute is that little Holly, eh. She balances herself pretty well on that big ball, doesn’t she. She does seem to be focused on the treats, but still manages to catch herself when the ball starts to roll. So adorable! And, yes, Daphne’s yawn tells the whole story. “Sigh. Here we go again…”

Between Ghost Girl and The Girl on the Plastic Bubble, I don’t know which character I’d vote for in the Best Home Movie category.

    Go, Holly!

  10. Wendy in Wisconsin says:

Holly is too cute and she is getting so big! Alan is right-Daphne’s reaction is just great-she is having none of it!

  11. I loved the show, but I really loved the backround. Your yard is great. I freely admit to a serious chase of yard envy. I am out to work in my postage stamp of a yard here, I work every square inch of it.

  12. p.s. now that you passed your EMT course are you on call or part of a volunteer department out in the country where you live?

  13. LVGroomer says:

Great video! Great job Holly! She could come to Vegas and join up with Gregory Popovich’s Pet Comedy Theater. I don’t have a link to their show, but if you look under Youtube you can find some of his pets at work too. BTW Ann, may I suggest a “bait bag” that attaches to your pants so you don’t have to be constantly checking your pockets for treats. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  14. Deborah from Woostah says:

Well Ann, I’m glad you found a good use for that ball, seeing as you certainly don’t need it to do crunches!
(Jealous fatarse over here) I started your novel today, should be finished by Monday! Please start writing another book, I like to have one “on deck”.

  15. I love Daphne’s reaction w/ a huge yawn. Hilarious.

I also love Holly’s little face as the skateboard is rolling backwards. So much trust and the fact that she is not taking her eyes off of the treats.

  16. Mary Lynn says:

Love the Japanese Beagle! I wish someone could translate . . . what a star! So nice that his handler keeps him on a leash (a loose one of course) navigating the street obstacles of Japan. And to think he does all of that without treats. Amazing.

  17. Mary Lynn, regarding Japanese beagle, I’m pretty sure that his owner’s little pink purse isn’t full of yen, if you know what I mean.

Candy, yes, our ambulance and firefighting services are all volunteer in our area.

  18. Yep, my guess is that that little pink bag is full of something that smells mighty tasty–Beagles are scent hounds!

  19. Christine says:

Alan, I caught the ‘little’ yawn Daphne gave. I wonder if she wishes she could do a trick or two on the ball.

Can’t believe how Holly is growing! She’s no longer a little peanut.

  20. Oh how I’ve missed that little furry face. You guys are getting so good on both the ball and the skateboard. And I agree with everyone about Daphne — too funny.

I just today watched your hubs on Letterman (from a few weeks ago) and was glad to hear the bear/dogs story. It was fun to feel like I already knew the dogs in the story.

Congrats again on passing the test.

  21. Christine Walker says:

A belated congratulations on passing the EMT test Ann! You should be very proud of yourself!

  22. Mary Lynn says:

Sandra, I just noticed the pink bag since you mentioned it — it would be nice if it had some water for the tuckered out trick dog!

Why is it the Japanese are so good at everything (or many things, anyways)? I pretty much gave up my aspiration to be a top leather tooler when I saw what a particular Japanese craftsman was turning out.

Such a small country, but so much talent!

Tomorrow is the 65th Anniversary of Hiroshima, so that is something to think about. (cue Debbie Downer ‘wahh – wahhh’ music.)

Anyways, the New Yorker hasn’t run an article on the Roy Rogers’ Auction, but Jamie Nudie did make this Salon.com article. http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/07/31/trigger_rides_again/index.html

Interesting column, as it mentions the taxidermist (now age 86) who actually mounted Trigger. These written pieces are always better when they delve into detail, and the writer certainly did her homework.

  23. Mary Lynn says:

So, I’m on a little (very little) self-improvement kick. After riding in cabs with Jamie Nudie in New York, (who is conversational in Spanish) and only understanding about half of the interplay between her and the cab drivers, I’ve decided to increase my grasp of Espanol.

Yesterday I learned what I think will be a very useful phrase — ‘perdoname los detalles’ — ‘spare me the details’.

I decided today I would learn ‘I can’t believe she said that!’ But, I got distracted by this Wikipedia entry on Spanish cursing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_profanity

Aye dios mio! Proceder con cautela!!!

  24. just saw your tweet. man, i wish i was in boston right now…..

  25. Its probably weird of me to notice much less comment but …your shoes are adorable. You look like a teenager playing

  26. I just had to laugh watching Holly. Reminds me of my pup, Maggie.

She’s actually about 6 yrs old, a Black Lab/Australian Shep mix and she loves, loves, LOVES exercise balls. But she doesn’t try to balance on them. She herds the ball but her favorite game is leap-frogging over them. She tries so hard to push the ball under her belly but she doesn’t quite make it. Then her nails poke holes in the ball which pops the ball. She’ll turn around and look at the flattened ball wondering what the heck happened!

We’ve tried different size balls, different brands and even duck-taped one hoping to make it last. That one lasted about 6 hrs of playing. LOL! It is SO funny watching her….she gets this excited almost manic look on her face and you can tell she’s laughing and having a blast!
