Woof!

As you might know, I made a book trailer for Julie Klam’s great new book You Had Me At Woof. What you probably don’t know is that we shot a series of very short training videos and the first one is up on YouTube now. If you’re a dog lover, why not have a look and see if you can pick up a few pointers.

That wasn’t supposed to be a joke. There are no pointers in the video. I’m not really sure about the breed of the dog in the video. Bantam? Rhode Island Red? Hope you like it. It’s here:

(I removed embedded video because it cut off half the screen. So just click on the link. Go ahead. Don’t be shy.)

  1. You know I never realized this before these Woof videos, but when I embed a video it cuts off half the screen. So you’re actually better off just clicking on the link above.

  2. These women are so damn funny. I wish they’d just put down the pen, and start making movies. The videos are absolutely hilarious.

  3. Aislinn, I’m not kidding, I was convulsing with laughter. And they never break character. If they weren’t such wonderful writers, I’d say they should go into acting. But then we’d have no Susan Orlean and Julie Klam books.

Susan Orlean, as many of you know, wrote The Orchid Thief and many famous essays for the New Yorker, etc. She is now working on a book about Rin Tin Tin, which, from what I understand, is as much about our nation during the radio era as it is about the famous German Shepherd. Cannot WAIT!

  4. You girls are so damn crazy!!! I loved it and so needed a good laugh!!!!

  5. I love it that Susan has on her specks and heels in the chicken coop, must always look glam. Who won the NYer contest, I just feel Daphne had it in the bag with her look. A fine mascot for the New Yorker Mag. I am liking my new job so much. Not as much money but no stress. It is nice to be busy but not stressed out. I feel like I am in the first phase of early retirement. xoxx.

  6. p.s What is our next book?

  7. Ann, I could not film these women without a stabilizing tri-pod and duct tape over my mouth. I would not be able to contain myself. They are just crazy funny, and their improv without skipping a beat sends me over the edge. Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.

  8. Okay, these women are a HOOT! Was this all improv? It feels like it. And I agree with Candy, Susan in glasses and heels standing before the chicken coop is too funny. I laughed so crazily as I watched the video that my two dogs ran in the house to check on my well-being. You are lucky to have such terrific women as friends, Ann.

Candy, so glad you are loving the new gig.

  9. Catherine says:

    Dog mutterer. Classic.

  10. Congrats to Mark and Gomer, they looked fab. I think Daphne got robbed, she was the best. I will say that Some Pug was very clever too, I still love Charlotte’s Web.

  11. Wait, Candy, did they announce the winners? Where? I can’t find it.

  12. I found it!

Today I was getting a haircut and I showed the stylist photos of my dogs on phone (of course). I told her about how we came to have Gomer and then I confided to her that I actually have a sort of weird crush on Gomer. She asked me why and I said, “Look at him! He’s gorgeous!” For some reason this woman thought this was hysterical.

  13. I have a crush on Gomer too!

Congratulations to Mark and Gomer, and of course, their stylist.

Daphne, fret not. There’s always next year.

  14. These women are truly hysterical. They remind me of Second City and “The Best In Show” characters.

  15. Mark as the nurse. I just can’t. I’m crying over here.

  16. Megan in Chicago says:

    Ann:
Already pre-ordered Julie’s book, based on your video. Because it made me laugh out loud. Well done. Can’t wait until it arrives. Hope all is well in your end!

  17. Hey Ann, this morning on GMA, George listed John Updike’s Rabbit Runner on his read list posted on his facebook. I thought of you being a Updike fan. Happy Friday, yahoo….

  18. “You Had me at Woof” was voted the “People Pick” in the Nov. 1st issue of People Magazine.

I think it’s time Julie Klam got in touch with a Swiss bank.

  19. Andrea (Minnesota) says:

That’s great about Mark and Gomer winning. Congratulations, Ann!

Gomer is easy to have a crush on. Feel compelled to confess my crush for Star Wars characters was/is always Chewbacca, really.

    Happy Halloween everyone!

  20. Congratulations to Mark and Gomer for their wins, and to their stylist, Ann. Of course, I think the Girls made a great showing, and in my opinion, Daphne was robbed!! And I’m not just saying that because I’m crazy about that dog.

  21. I love Mark as the nurse! The next time I watch the movie Romeo and Juliet I will think of Mark.
