The Nutcracker Sweeties

I have been working on a little project. I was so full of good cheer when I began! I decided that I would make a holiday video for you all. It would be a sort of Christmas card, spreading all my good will. All my glad tidings. But, as usual, when I have finished trying to edit something on video, I am in such a state of agitation and fury that it’s taking every ounce of willpower I possess not to carefully place this laptop beneath the rear tire of my pickup and back over it, then switch gears to forward and drive over it again, switch to reverse, etc. To also resist the urge to then take the flattened computer wafer and, using a blowtorch, weld it onto a boulder where I would hurl rocks at it every hour, on the hour, after which I would fashion it it into a sort of pagan token that I would hang from a tree branch to frighten anybody who might decide to stop by unannounced…

But, never mind! It’s all done now. All the cutting and pasting and accidentally deleting three hours work in the blink of an eye so that I must start anew …well, that’s all behind me. And I’m really fine. This twitching eye and accompanying neck spasm will surely go away at some point.

So here it is: I would embed it here, so that you could see it right on the blog, but MY BLOG WON’T SHOW IT FOR SOME REASON! SO here’s a link. Hope you like it. And Happy Holidays!

Comments

  1. Nicely done. I especially like the two dogs a-leaping….

  2. Ann,

That video is going to place a smile on everyone who sees it. Your hard work did not go unrewarded. A place of nirvana for all the animals. That shot of Gomer and Daphne is priceless. Loved the music.
    Happy Holidays Everyone!

I’ve been given a three day reprieve from treatment because I am truly barbecued. I’m gonna to Christmas shopping. Shopping has always overwhelmed me, therefore internet shopping is where I retreat. Not this year.

    Gloria

  3. Laura Zigman says:

BRAVA! And I agree with Alan: love the two (border-collies?) dogs a-leaping.

  4. Haven’t watched the video yet, but just wanted to say about the blog entry: Never laughed so hard!
And soooo feel for you, as I have similar feelings every time my computer acts up, but I only think about throwing it out the window. :)

  5. That was adorable! I love how Gomer and Daphne pose so sweetly for the nutcracker moment. Perfect music choice too.

Now, who’s gonna film the “Crazy Lady Drives over Laptop” video?

  6. Ann
You were busy editing,That’s why I couldn,t view it last night. It was worth the wait! Made my morning…only 24 hrs and 50 min left to my shift..almost halfway there YAY!!!

  7. Donna Washburn says:

Wonderful! So nice to see snow again – beautiful shots and that new foal is absolutely priceless! Thank you.

  8. Oh the dreaded eye twitch! It is so evil!

The video is lovely. I love the timing, and I always love Nutcracker music. (I think I need to find a new word for “love”)

The couple shots of Gomer, he looks like he holds such an old soul. I’m not religious or believe in reincarnation, but I can’t help wonder that he’s been on this earth before. Man I’d just love to hug him.

    Happy Holidays!

  9. I could not get the music at work but looked the shots. Is that little Oliver? He is beautiful. Love the geese!

  10. Susan Banker says:

This is WONDERFUL! I have horses and a dog and
I could watch this all day. Thank you! It’s perfect.

  11. Linda Hatch says:

Running over the laptop with the truck sounds great, but my favorite revenge – now that I have seen a bit of “The Pacific” (hubby is watching it) – on animate and inanimate objects is a flame thrower. That’s what I’d like to use on the pond scum that is going around protesting at funerals.

OK. Now that’s out of my system, I think the Christmas film is delightful. Such lovely animals and such lovely music.

Even tho I sound like I am pissed off at the world, and most of the time I am, I do sincerely wish all of you a healthy and happy holiday season.

  12. I watched it twice, the better to appreciate the artistry with which the image is matched to the music. The horses seem to be responding to their inner nutcrackers. Even the dogs wag their tails in time. If inanimate things can dance, why not animals?

  13. Ann, thank you for making me smile, chuckle, laugh every day.

    Happy Holidays!

  14. What a fabulous flurry of furry fun!

  15. Linda Hatch says:

Book Alert! For those of you who were charmed by “You Had Me At Woof” and are cat lovers also, you will be doubly charmed by “Cleo: The Cat Who Mended a Family” by Helen Brown.

  16. Wow, Ann. Great editing! Seriously, you are getting really good, and the music choices were spot-on! It looks like a carefully choreographed number. I think my favorite part is the geese. They are geese aren’t they? I’m a city girl.

I am fighting the urge to comment to Ipswitch, by the way.

  17. Oh I’m so very glad that you didn’t destroy your computer. It was so charming and sweet !!! I loved it !!!

  18. judith pickering says:

Ann–the video was great–you are really good at matching music to video. The music reminded me that we are going to see a local version of The Nutcracker with my 10 yr. old grandson as one of the performers tonight. Take care and keep up entertaining us–we love it.

  19. Cynthia in Westchester says:

Loved the video, and am ready to start a Fan Club for Gomer!

How can one not feel a little bit of holiday cheer after that sweet video? Ann, you ROCK!

  20. Kim Long Island says:

Ann – I’m happy your head different blow off your shoulders (well maybe?) trying to complete this video. Great job! I loved it! Gomer…………he’s well – just so Gomer. LOL.

  21. The video is so full of spirited life and cheer. Pictures of a zest for life. Thanks for all your hard work, Ann. It was joyful.
I too want to hug Gomer, so I’ll have to give my black lab mix dog an extra hug tonight. He was snoring last night…

  22. P.S. They are predicting enough snow to end the world as we know it in Minnesota tonight/tomorrow–or so the excited weather folks say. Why is it a predicted snowstorm makes one need to go out and buy yummy but unhealthy things to snack and drink?!

  23. Stay safe Andrea…….here in New Jersey I think when everyone is snowed in they are making french toast; stores run out of bread, milk and eggs.

  24. Funny, Barbara!

  25. Ann,

Spectacular – perfectly done – Absolutely loved it!!!!!

  26. LOVE THE VIDEO! It just put a broad smile on my face. That Gomer is the Johnny Depp of dogs. Irrestible!

  27. Love it! have to say GREAT JOB!
    Merry Christmas!

  28. Kim Long Island says:

I think I need glasses or I am becoming Norm Crosby. How did I type different when I mean’t didn’t? Yes – I have to post this to point out that I did notice it. Geez – getting old is a bitch.

  29. Kim Long Island says:

We just decorated the tree this morning – I don’t want to sound like an “ipswitch” but I must say – we really did a fantastic job!

  30. Yowza! I go away for 24 hours and see now that the fog has cleared that Ipswitch wasn’t being very nice. I thought he/she was referring to her/himself. No wonder I never figured out I was being dumped when I was being dumped.

I just returned from a beautiful night in NYC. My hotel room overlooked the Queensborough Bridge. Actually, I think it was on the Queensborough Bridge. I didn’t sleep a wink. I am “exhaust”ed. Get it?

  31. Kim and Aislinn, thanks for the laugh this morning! Aislinn, I was pretty sure Ipswitch wasn’t being very nice. Love Ann’s response.

  32. Twas two weeks before Christmas
    And we on the Blog
    Were enjoying ourNutcracker Sweet
While Ipswitch was banked in an awful fog.
The bloggers were blogging about cute ol Gomer
While someone from from way back had apparently the Sugar Donut Coma of Homer
AS we read with disgust at our disrespect for our beloved Ann,
We rallied around our favorite Author, Animal Lover,Mom,and wife the best we can.
I know I value her friendship like gold…Unfortunately, now I know why people from this end of the world are called MASSHOLES.

Just for you my sweet Ann XO MILLBURY

  33. massholes is hilarious, Rose -thanks for the chuckle!!!

  34. Massholes. As a west coaster, that’s a new one for me. Excellent poety, Rose!

  35. Rose, I love it. I have to say that the fact that our friend is probably from the North Shore made me cut him/her a little slack. I know some people from that area who would consider that comment to be a friendly one. In fact, I’m going to take it as one.

Thank you, dear Ipswitch, for your passion and devotion to this blog. That you took the time to search the archives for my dreadful words and then to post them here …well, really, you shouldn’t have! Its too much! And then to offer a critique….well, all I can say is, I don’t deserve it. I’m sure that you have a great deal going on in your personal life and so I am honored that you took the time out for this blog. And I’m humbled. Yes,humbled. From this day forth, I shall brag no more. And once I make up my mind to do something, I am committed. OH damn, that was kind of braggy. What I meant to say is that I’m no whiner. AGAIN! I am out of control.

I better stop now. But thanks for the kind words everybody. I have the best blog readers on earth.

    UGGGGGGGGGGG! I did it again.

  36. Rose, Excellent poem!

    Ann, Excellent response!

Alan, have you got a haiku to throw in for good measure?

  37. Kim Long Island says:

Holy ipswitching a go go. Zoinks!!!

  38. Megan in Chicago says:

LOVED the video! Happy Holidays to you and yours, too!

  39. Barbara: I love it, french toast! The store I stopped at had a very healthy clientele: the store was almost out of bags of lettuce, orange juice and broccoli. The twin cities are pretty shut down: mass transit stopped, the airport is pretty much closed. And we can handle snow! I gave myself a facial, organized toiletries, took a nap, and watched Julia Child and Jacques Pepin cook duck. And our dog Barron had the best time helping my husband snowblow out ourselves and our neighbors. Happy winter everyone, stay warm and cozy.

  40. I just LOVE it! soooo freaking uplifting! WICKED GOOD – thank you!

  41. Aislinn, can I give it a stab while we wait for Alan’s haiku?

    Ann writes a fun blog-
    beware of lurking critics
    who don’t get the joke

  42. amanda – awesome hiaku! good thing i didn’t write one… my take on lurking critics would’ve likely been less tactful.

  43. Andrea—hope you are safe, sound and cozy at home. I’ve just been reading about how snowy and bad your weather is……the much loved (?)(here in NY/NJ anyway) NY Giants are trapped in Kansas City and don’t know if they can get to Minneapolis for the game tomorrow. When football considers canceling a game–no decision yet– you know it’s bad weather. Be safe !!

  44. Thanks Everyone! I got another
    There once was a man
    From Nantucket…..

Hehehehe Enjoy and be safe STAY WARM and GO PATS,sorry Barbara LOL

  45. Aislinn, I was going to write a limerick instead of a haiku. I even had the first line: There once was a blogger from Ipswich . But now I’m having difficulty trying to find just the right word to rhyme with “Ipswich.” I’m sure it will come to me eventually…. :-)

  46. Love this, Ann! Thank you and all the very best to you, yours and my fellow Ann fans! (I’m with Alan and Laura—the two dogs a-leaping were THE BEST!)

  47. ….. who instead of a brain had a flip switch?
    ~ just a thought.

  48. Colleen Connolly says:

. . . making all of her thoughtless comments quite dreary

  49. …I’d say Flip Switch from Ipswitch wishes she was Ann Leary.

  50. This video makes me so very happy. Thank you, Ann.

And Happy Holidays to all ~

  51. I didn’t get to read the snarky comments. Feeling out of the loop. But I loved the video and can’t wait to show it to my 3 year old granddaughter who has become obsessed with anything Nutcracker. Last week it was princesses. Could you make a princess video with the dogs, Ann? Gomer could be the handsome prince.

  52. I for one love this blog and love to read about someone else’s life, especially the good stuff do not ever stop or change Ann.

  53. Sandy Sweeney says:

I too missed the Ipswitch comment but seriously, when I figured out someone was dissing our Ann, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I got into my fighting stance! Nobody disses our Ann! But it is the holiday season and I am trying to be more forgiving so I will just say Happy Holidays to our little blogging family and thank you Ann for sharing with us.

  54. Snarky comment can be found under “My Thick Scull.”

  55. I loved this video and glad you didnt give up when you were having such trouble editing. Thanks so much.
I will comment on the Snarky comment.
    WTH
Are blogs suppose to be all whiny boohoo me?
    Who reads that crap?
As a matter of fact if there are people in my life who are all boohoo whiny I dont even want to listen to them much less read what they have to moan about.
Just because you enjoy life and enjoy the things in your life doesnt mean you are bragging it means you have a great outlook on life and like to share.
    Ann Please never change.

  56. Kathy Close says:

As an animal lover that was such a delightful video. Thanks for taking the time to share and entertain us.

Regarding the critic it is easy for people to be jealous and unkind. This is a tough time of year for people who don’t have a wicked good life. Revel and be grateful for all the blessings you deserve.

    Love Always

  57. Too Sweet!!!

I have to admit, I shared the video with my pets and we had a long conversation about how they refuse to ANYTHING when I have a camera in my hand. They don’t pose, do tricks or do any cutesie things until the CAMERA IS TURNED OFF or there is no one else in the room but me! I could see in their faces, they were a little embarrassed. I told them that we needed to raise the bar a little and they agreed to step up to the plate. Well, we’ll see, we’ll see!
