Oh my gosh, Ann, the dog on the left looks just like my Murphy, who just passed away today. I posted about that a little while ago. It says my “post is awaiting moderation”, or something on that order. Not sure what that means.
Oh Maureen, I’m SO SORRY. We just switched blog formats again and the comments aren’t posting automatically like they should have. I’ll find post. I feel terrible that I posted the video that reminds you of Murphy, but maybe it’ll bring back some nice memories for you. xo
Ann, on the contrary, do not feel terrible. The resemblance is really uncanny. It is as though I am watching my Murphy. I am choosing to believe that you posting this here, tonight of all nights, is him telling me “don’t worry, Mama, I’m OK. I am prancing down the beach with my tail in the air.”
It is sign, which believe it or not, comforts me, and makes me feel better.
Maureen, I am so sorry to read of the passing of your beloved dog. All of Ann’s blog readers are pet lovers or owners and our heartfelt sympathies are with you and your husband.
That was priceless !!!! How did those 2 sit there waiting patiently and not attack the food ??? My puggle would be jumping out of her skin and attacking the dish ! Thanks for sharing.
Maureen, I’m so sorry to hear your news. You have my condolences.
I think the key is that there doesn’t appear to be any meat on the plate. Dogs can restrain themselves better for veggies. I looked up the breed of the gorgeous fellow on the right. A very rare Danish breed.
Maureen, I responded to your original post, but also want to say here how sorry I am that you have lost Murphy. I think it is wonderful that Ann posted this video, and it reminds you of him. I love the imagery of Murphy prancing down the beach with his tail in the air. Love it.
Barbara, my niece has a Puggle, and she has a reputation for LOVING food, too. I’m still laughing about Bella managing to maneuver herself in such a position that she could lick the whole side of my birthday cake before any of us noticed what she was up to. I could go on and on about that dog. She is a cutie. She’s also on a diet.
Oh my gosh Sandra—ours is named Apple and she and Bella sound like they could be twins !! Apple is one of the friendliest, most lovable dogs I know. She is also just like having a toddler in the house ! I don’t think she has a shut off instinct when it comes to food—I love your birthday cake story–we have one too !! Ate half the cake on the dining room table–we have to make sure everything is out of “Apple Reach” !
My birthday cake was on the dining room table, too, Barbara! We have lots of food stories where Bella has the featured role. She is a very sweet and lovable dog, but we have learned to keep an eye on her at birthday parties. My Wheatens are beggars, but they are too big to go unnoticed around a birthday cake.
Thanks to all of you for your sweet thoughts. I also think it is a sign that I only recently discovered this blog, and have been able to share this overwhelming sadness with people who can understand what a dog can mean to someone.
Today has been very tough. Though it kills us to do it, we have been gathering all up all of his things. We just can’t see his empty beds and dishes, when he is not here. My husband is heartbroken. We have been together for 31 years, I have never seen him this upset. He has truly lost his best friend and faithful companion.
I know that time with will ease this sadness, but at the moment, I can barely breathe and function.
Thanks again to all of you, so are all so thoughtful and sweet and supportive of someone you have never met. xoxo
Maureen, I am so very sorry to hear that your beloved Murphy is gone. I hope that you and your husband will find some peace and even some joy at his memory while you grieve.
Just take it one day at a time. That’s all you can do.
Maureen: my condolences to you too, and to your husband. Heartbroken truly is the right word for the emotion. Many people will understand, some will not, but it’s an enormous loss when one losses a beloved animal. They absolutely can be our best friends. I hope you and your husband give yourself some time, because it doesn’t go away right away.
Thank you, Ann, for this wonderful video. Maureen I am so very sorry about Murphy…..Nothing can really help but time. I am glad for the timing of this video….Ann, you always seem to do the right thing (no matter what you say about yourself).

the stepkiddo knew the breed before i told her… i’d never heard of it.
A little long, but very cute.
Maureen, so sorry for the loss of your Murphy.
A little like the “Breakfast at Gingers” vid. Hysterical!
