How I Met a Prince at Bergdorf’s

On Wednesday I stopped in Bergdorf Goodman’s because I heard that they were having a sale.  It was lunchtime, and I realized I would need some fortification before braving the sales racks, so I went up to the restaurant, which is on one of the top floors.  The restaurant was packed, but I was able to find a seat at the bar.

Hipsta

Finally spring has come to our corner of Connecticut so I thought I’d share some photos.

I’ve started taking some photos with “Hipstamatic” which is an iPhone app.   When people started posting Hipstamatic photos on FB and Twitter a while back, I recall thinking that they were annoying.  Kind of the way I used to feel about blogs. Of course, now that I have started using the app, I think it’s totally cool.

Lulu’s the only dog I’ve ever known with cloven paws.

I captured a photo of ghost girl:

Nevermore

Long line outside the Kardashian store in Soho today

THE KARDASHIAN STORE
A Poe-m By Ann Leary  (some bits borrowed from The Raven)

Once upon a midday dreary, while I wandered weak and weary
Through the jolly tourists flocking, o’er the Soho streets of lore,
While I stumbled, nearly crashing, amidst the crowds, my teeth a-nashing,
I came upon a curious queue, a whole block long, from Jersey (New)
“What lies yonder,” I asked a girl;  her eyes were gleaming, softly dreaming
“Um, okay, you don’t know?” she did mock. Thoughtest I, What the fock?
Then, quoth the maiden, “It’s the Kardashian Store!”

On The Waterfront

Last night we attended the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival.  It was held outdoors, on the waterfront in Tribeca and when we arrived, this is what the Plaza looked like:

What’s the name of the plaza?  I have no idea. It’s part of the whole revitalized downtown area that Jane Rosenthal, Robert DeNiro and many businesses have worked tirelessly at rebuilding after 9/11 and now this waterfront area is a beautiful place to relax, ride bikes, or watch the screening of Cameron Crowe’s new film, The Union, about Elton John and Leon Russell on a giant screen, as we did last night.

The Taming of the Shrews

This week on Hash Hags, we had writer Arthur Phillips on to discuss his new novel The Tragedy of Arthur, which is already receiving fabulous reviews, though it just came out yesterday.  The novel is about a man whose father and sister are obsessed with Shakespeare, and his father may or may not be in possession of a lost Shakespearean play.  The five-act play is actually included in the novel.

Home Sweet Home

Denis is home, exhausted, following several weeks of very hard work on an action film.  He’s in the the new Spiderman movie which is being shot in 3D and there were many long days and some all-night shoots and for some reason he thought it would be relaxing to return to his home.

Here is how he relaxed on his first day:

Young Writers

It’s time, once again, to help choose the poems, essays and stories that will be read at this year’s ASAP Celebration of Young Writers.  For those of you who are new here, The Celebration of Young Writers is an annual event to raise money for the After School Arts Program in Washington, CT.  Local writers and performing artists read the works of children in the community, ages 5-18.  Over the years, Denis, Christine Baranski, Peter Gallagher, Mia Farrow, Rose Styron and many others have been readers and Frank McCourt, whom we all dearly miss, always ended the evening with a tribute to teachers.

Oh To Be The Most Anything

Interior Eyesore "before"

I was in the city for the past two rainy days, and am back in the country and enjoying a glorious spring morning.

Yesterday, I had an appointment with my doctor to do some bloodwork, because I think I might have Lyme Disease. When I spoke to his nurse last week,  she said that they would do a whole blood workup including a cholesterol test.  I have had my cholesterol checked a few years ago,  but didn’t remember to do the fasting part, so I ate a giant breakfast and drank my usual pot of coffee with cream and sugar and I think I had high cholesterol, but am not sure because when they sent me the results, I promptly lost them.  SO this time, I wanted to do it right and fast properly so that I could have the best cholesterol levels that my doctor has ever seen.

An Honest Horse

Today it was very warm, finally. It was in the seventies and sunny with a mild breeze. It has been such a long hard winter that everybody I saw today said stuff like, “Can you believe this weather? Can you BELIEVE it?” as if it was a miracle or might be a dream.
