My New Hair Guru

I have shortish/medium length hair and if I try to put it into a ponytail, it doesn’t hang gracefully like a real pony’s tail, but rather it sticks straight out in back and looks like a beleaguered hen’s tail that has been plucked down to a few stiff feathers.

The other night, I was at a dinner party and saw a woman with hair that was about my length, and she had it fashioned up into a cute messy bun. I asked her how she styled it and she said she learned how on a YouTube video. Yes, I too was shocked to learn that there are videos on YouTube that don’t have animals in them. It never occurred to me to look for any other kind.

Empty Nest Syndrome

Good Dog, Smirk!

Yeah, so we’re doing a little redecorating around here.  This isn’t the finished product but it’s getting there. When I saw the photo of Holly making the exact same smirky face as me, I decided that it had to be the new banner for the blog.

So, what do you think?

Really, I don’t want the truth.  I don’t deal well with changes, this whole thing has me almost as stressed out as the new Facebook, so unless you really find it atrocious, please just pretend you like it.

Tony Bennett, Dogs, Hags

Tony Bennett and Aretha Franklin

It was a beautiful weekend here in New England.  Devin came home on Saturday night, we had a nice dinner with her and watched a movie. We just enjoyed the outdoors and our animals. Let’s see, what else?   Oh yes, there was one other thing – Denis and I crashed Tony Bennett’s birthday party.

A Really Cold Case

Do you think it’s possible to find a person who has been missing for 100 years?

My great grandmother, Louisa Knickerbocker Rauschmeier gave birth to my grandmother in 1912, and then she “disappeared.”  I want to find out what happened to her.

All Boxed In

We were at the  US Open women’s tennis finals on Sunday. Yes, the match where Serena had a bit of a meltdown.

The View From Here

This morning Denis was asked to be on CNN with Anderson Cooper and Candy Crowley as part of their coverage of the 9/11 memorial service. I got to tag along.

All the streets and many sidewalks were blocked and we couldn’t figure out how to get into Two World Financial Center, where the CNN interview was supposed to take place, so we stood on the corner talking with some other confused people when a very handsome man with silver hair walked up and introduced himself. It was Anderson Cooper.  He didn’t know where we were supposed to enter the building either, but soon there was a producer at our side and we were whisked into the building and through the metal detectors and then up to the roof we went.

The Finale

On Wednesday, I drove into the city for the Rescue Me finale party.  For some reason, I had thought this was going to be sort of like a “wrap party” for cast and crew, but once I arrived in the city, I learned that it was going to be a slightly bigger deal, with a red carpet and press and everything.

Rescue Me

I know that you are all anxious to talk about the Rescue Me finale and yes, I do know what’s going to happen, but I have some much more interesting news. There’s somebody else in my life. Another guy.  Sure, Denis is great and everything, but, well, this new guy is a) gorgeous, b)younger and c) witty, charming and athletic.  While Denis also has these traits,  my new love has them in spades.  Yes, I’m talking about dashing Zidane.
