Good Dog, Smirk!

Yeah, so we’re doing a little redecorating around here.  This isn’t the finished product but it’s getting there. When I saw the photo of Holly making the exact same smirky face as me, I decided that it had to be the new banner for the blog.

So, what do you think?

Really, I don’t want the truth.  I don’t deal well with changes, this whole thing has me almost as stressed out as the new Facebook, so unless you really find it atrocious, please just pretend you like it.

  1. I like it ! I think it’s cute! What’s better than a picture of you and the darling Holly…..and if she is darling and you are making the same face, logically then…..your picture is darling too !!

  2. Ann, I noticed the change even before you posted this. The letters of your name caught my eye, and I remember thinking how nice it looked. The white really stands out against the background of the tree and wooden fence, and it goes nicely with the white house and the white fence in the background. I wouldn’t change a thing.

We are on the first leg of a 10 day trip that will eventually bring us to the Outer Banks on Sunday night. It was all very last minute, due to the recent turbulent weather in that area. All was looking good, so we decided Sunday we would go, and two days later, Tropical Storm Ophelia escalated to a named storm. Not forecast to hit land, but even when hundreds of miles away, the storms can really affect the ocean and beach.

It is our first long trip with our new Labrador puppy, Gauge. Aside from several incidents of car sickness, it’s going pretty well so far. Wish us luck!!

p.s. any remedies for puppy car sickness, anyone? He got sick even though we did not feed him for many hours prior. Hoping it is just puppyhood and he grows out of it.

    • Thanks Maureen. Have you tried yogurt for the puppy? I knew a breeder who swore that vanilla ice cream prevented puppy carsickness, but I think the yogurt might be better. I wonder why puppies get motion sickness and then, almost always, outgrow it.

      Have a great trip.

      • For puppy car sickeness try putting him in a puppy car seat. Use a seat with an attachment that hooks to them like a harness. It gives the dog the sensation of being grounded so they do not get sick. Plus it also keeps them safe during an accident.

      • Maureen,

Indy and Savannah, my departed cocker spaniels, used to suffer motion sickness in the car when they were puppies. For them, it was just a stage. Both stopped when they were approximately 6-9 months. Gauge is a lucky boy. Glad he has a good home. Is he around 4 1/2 months old by now?

I agreed to keep a friend’s little dog for 4 days, hoping to give timid Lily Bellie a friend with whom she can socialize. It’s not pretty. Lily Belle identifies with
humans, not other dogs. Her doppleganger is emerging. Even a lily has a thorn.

Since there are no less than 2 attorneys and 2 physicians in my family, I felt comfortable speaking with them about my situation. I was told no hurry, no worry.
they’ll deal with it, with my full cooperation. (Like I would behave like a guttersnipe at this time.) My anger was never about the damm tour. There are plenty of seductive-alluring attractions in NYC. It was about upholding the concept of equality. No one should be unjustly treated based on a trivial matter that can easily be remedied. Look what time it is, I got so pumped up that sleep escapes. This is one of the few times that I am happy that family members have 3 Ph.Ds, 2 MDs, 2 JD. Their high-flying professional achievements used to make me feel inadequate, me with only my master’s. Now I am charmed they
have the ability to assist me when I need it.

    • Best remedy we’ve ever found for puppy motion sickness is “Happy Traveler” by Ark Naturals Natural Products for Pets. It contains calming herbs that make them sleepy and that help with stress behavior and motion sickness. We used it when we flew from Ohio to Oregon with our last Leonberger puppy and she did great. Good luck!

  3. Just love the photo of the two smirky faces! so cute…..and I would leave your name in white…..it’s perfect as is unless you had Mark peeking over the fence…and your hair looks fabulous!

  4. Love the picture. I noticed that you and Holly had the same expression even before reading. But what has happened to the Wicked Good Life title? I do so love Wicked Good Life.

  5. Perfect, I wouldn’t change a thing

  6. Ann, I really like your new header, sweet pic of you and Holly and the lovely background of your home and yard.

    Thumbs up!

  7. great picture! i think it’s perfect as is…. i agree with the others, though, i miss “wicked good life.” can that be fit in somewhere?

  8. The new picture is just awesome! What a great idea…my dog Riley has this same look when he wakes up…his mouth always funky. Geez, how we identify with our dogs-it’s a beautiful thing.

  9. Ann I LOVE the new banner. It speaks your name loud and clear as it should be :) Holly is adorable and it gives her the little spotlight she so deserves.

  10. I zoomed, I saw, I snorted, which tapered into a long chuckle. I mean, you don’t often (ever?) see a dog smirk. I’ve heard of spouses coming to resemble each other, but — well, love me, love my dog. It’s not just the expression, it’s the alignment of the heads. Don’t change a thing.

  11. Linda Hatch says:

Well, am I losing my eyesight or what? I am not getting a new banner on your blog. Wonder why? I have tried everything I can think of and still don’t get one.

    • Linda, give this a try: somewhere in your browser menu, there may be a “Refresh” or “Reload” command. If so, go to Ann’s “Wicked Good Life” page, then go to the menu and click on the aforementioned command. The old page should then update to the new page.

      • Linda Hatch says:

Thank you so much, Alan. It worked. And OMG what a hysterical picture. Can’t believe the identical expressions. Just LOVE it. It’s perfect for your new banner, Ann. I just die laughing every time I look at you two. Maybe Wicked Good Life could go in the lower left-hand corner of the picture. Not too big tho. Smaller than your name. Directly on the same line as the photo credit.

  12. Love the photo! I like the white lettering, and the size is perfect.

  13. How about: Ann Leary’s Wicked Good Life

Thanks all for the puppy car sickness suggestions. I was speaking with someone today who works with dogs for a living. He said it is usally just getting acclimated to the car, their inner ear gets affected when the are not used to it. Which made sense to me, because right after one of the incidents yesterday, he kept shaking his head for several minutes, and we were concerned that it wasn’t just car sickness, but that something was wrong with his ear. When we were taking him in the car for several days in a row, he would not get sick. My friend suggested short car rides almost everyday, and they usually grow out of it.

Gloria, yes, you are exactly right about his age, he will be 5 months old on October 7. We are really enjoying him, we just love him. He has really filled a void in our hearts and in our home.

  14. Dear Ann,

The new header is great. Both you and Miss Holly are stunning, so real, and such down to earth- beauties!!

  15. Megan in Chicago says:
