Best show ever in tv in my opinion! I spent the winter back at season one re watching. That show had everything from serious to the most outrageous! There could not of been a better pick of cast. Of course loved Denis’s charecter but we also loved the Ken Shea role and we often say WWKS do! Haha. Congrats!!
WTG Denis (and Peter & John)…Each season was better than the one preceding it. Although I miss seeing new shows, owing the DVD’s continues to remind me what a great series it was. All the best on your future endeavors!
Congratulations to Denis Leary and Peter Tolan. Rescue Me was such a well done show and such an oasis in the desert of quality programming TV has become.
Awards are nice, and this one is beyond well-deserved. I don’t have any shiny trophies heavy with industry praise & critical stamps of approval, but I do have a heart full of gratitude. Imagine red, orange & yellow flames emblazoned across this word-parcel of thanksgiving for the writing. That masterly, compelling, uproariously funny & downright sobering storytelling. I applaud & congratulate everyone, each name on that scrolling list of credits. Rescue Me meant (and still means) so much to me. Not the least of those reasons being the way it magic-ed my father back to me, as if he were sitting kicked back in his La-Z-Boy chair watching every episode, maybe falling asleep & snoring now & then or asking for a beer; the same song would start to rock & immediately I sensed my dad no more than an arm’s length away. Stories that good, told so well & so real that they transport you–or ferry lost loved ones back to you–that’s some powerful word-craft, and something to be incredibly proud of.
What an evocative posting, Denise. I agree with every word about “Rescue Me”. And your comments about your father brought tears to my eyes, a lump to my throat, and an ache to my chest. You must have had a wonderful relationship with your dad. I’m envious. Congratulations to Denis, Peter, and the rest of the “Rescue Me” crew. In my humble opinion, Denis has always been a shining example of the best a person, actor, comedian, husband, father, and friend can be. I don’t worship celebrities, but the Learys inspire awe and respect in me.
Next up for the Learys: a Pulitzer Prize for The Good House (for her) and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Amazing Spider Man (for him).
Big kudos to the Leary Family. -a well deserved award and finally recognition for the great piece of work Rescue Me was and is. I don’t find TV series the least bit interesting in general, but I thought Rescue Me was extraordinary on so many levels – writing, acting, humor, addressing societal issues, bringing needed attention to fireman and 911 first responders, to mention just a few… My personal opinion, for what it’s worth, is that mediocrity gets more high profile awards these days than works bordering on genius. From the cousin of a Washington DC firehouse captain, I consider Rescue Me top shelf and worth recommending to one and all.
Thanks for sharing. I never missed an episode of Rescue Me and would often watch it again because the writing was so spot on and razor sharp that I appreciated the episode so much more the second time around. There was something about the series that was modern yet old world. It reminded me of my own family’s traditional blue collar beginnings and how my own childhood revolved around siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. Family was and still is everything. And that is what so endeared me to the show. Right or wrong, crazy or sane, you stuck with your family. Ann, looking forward to reading The Good House.
a much deserved award and excellent acceptance speeches! we watched the video…. then there was a link for a david letterman interview. watched that. then saw there was a link for ‘inside the actors studio’ and watched THAT. who knew james lipton had a sense of humor?!?
I had been reading the LA times and there was Denis raving about Emma Stone, I believe she is the actress playing his daughter in Spidy. Congratulations to all three and everyone associated with RM.
I deeply loved “Rescue Me” a well written intelligent show. It was at times difficult to watch the struggles and tribulations the characters went through. Honestly I fricking loved the raunchy sex scenes! It was like foreplay for me and my husband! Done as tastefully as possible. I totally miss the hell out of this show. I know Denis has had several big movies, but I hope someday he will return back to television with another kick ass show!
Denis Leary and Peter Tolan = hilarious! Congratulations and well-deserved!
Great Job Denis! So proud of you & your work. Thanks for posting Ann!

I never missed Rescue Me, I had such feelings for the conflicted Tommy Gavin. Peter Tolan’s speech was sooo funny, I loved it.
Well, it’s about f***ing time they got recognized! A well deserved congratulations to the incredible cast & crew.
Yay!! What did you wear to the awards?
Love love love the show. So glad to see the cast and crew finally acknowledged for a great achievement.
