Cross-Dressing Critters

Some of you might recall that I entered my beloved children pets in a “Critterati Contest” held by the New Yorker  a few years ago.  We did very well, with Mark and Gomer claiming 2 of the top 5 spots. You can see them here.

Since then, it has become a bit of a halloween tradition to dress up the animals in our house. It turns out that they love to cross-dress as humans. Probably because of all the attention they receive during the picture taking.  If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, you have probably seen my most recent photos of our critters all dragged out, but if not, here they are:

First, Gomer as Hunter S. Thompson:

Mark as Rembrandt:

Holly as Marilyn Monroe:

Mark as Little Edie Beale (Grey Gardens):

Here are some from past years:

Lulu as Bill Sikes (David Copperfield):

Daphne as Uriah Heep (also from Copperfield):

Daphne as Friar Tuck:

Gomer as Reverend Dimmesdale (The Scarlet Letter):

And finally, Zidane, as Montgomery Clift:

No, he doesn’t need a costume. He just IS Montgomery Clift.

  1. lolol My favorite is Holly. Thanks for some great laughs.

  2. I agree with Tracy. Little Holly as Marilyn Monroe is perfect, including the tousled blonde hair.

Stay safe in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. I am not liking the name of this storm.

  3. OMG! The first picture of Gomer is hysterical!!! I almost spit out my tea when I saw it.

You really should put up a warning…Please put all beverages down. The pictures you are about to view may cause beverages to reappear in a most unfavorable way.

  4. Love all the pics, so fun. All you blog buddies out east be safe, this is a very serious situation. Ann, are you on call? Let us hear from you.

  5. Hilarious! Love those cooperative critters. Huggable and fuzzy for ugly weather.

  6. I need help from my fellow bloggers: I want to attach my picture so that is shows when I post but I am not sure how to do this. I have tried several times to copy from my desktop but I can’t get it to take. I did not have any problems with LinkedIn or Pinterest, what am I doing wrong here? Any help is appreciated.

  7. Zidane as Montgomery Clift. That gave me pause. I came around, both the leading man and the horse are definitely beautiful. Not George Clooney, not Brad Pitt, Monty Clift is perfect.

  8. Hunter S. Thompson and Marilyn Monroe are the best ones! Hm, why do I only like the ones that have alcohol included? But I don’t worry. No, because Montgomery Clift comes right in the third place, considering that it wasn’t a disguise at all

I think Edie Beale is my fave. I mean, Gray Gardens, come on…priceless…MAH-velous!

  10. Those are adorable! What a perfect day to try and have some humor. I hope you and all of your animals, as well as Denis :) stay safe during the storms. If you have to go out Ann, you BE CAREFUL!!! Are you on duty? Have a good evening as best as you can.

  11. I like Rembrandt. However, Montgomery Clift takes my breath away.

  12. Zidane is too beautiful to be Monty. I hope he knocks on my door this Halloween.

  13. Ann, I love your literary-& -film-inspired costumes. Every time I see a photo of Zidane I can’t help thinking that you ended up with the Black Stallion from Walter Farley’s books.

In related Grey Gardens impressions, did you see that young actress’ fabulous impression on The New Normal a couple weeks ago? Can’t believe how well she nailed it. Bebe Wood steals so many scenes on that show she should have a rap sheet.

NOTE TO ANN, ALAN, AISLIN, KC, BEV, AND OTHER LOCALS::
Didn’t Julie Klam have a book signing set up in Washington, CT, the last time there was a major weather event that all but shut down CT???
    Am I miss remembering this?
If this is true, should a fund be raised to move Julie elsewhere? I don’t know the beautiful young woman, but ya gotta admit…I was thinking of dropping by on the way to see my son, but know…
Perhaps I’m wrong, and if so, I apologize! If I’m correct…well…let’s get Julie out of the country before we start planning Ann’s party!
    Love and miss you guys!

    • Great to hear from you, Cynthia — love and miss you too!

And you may just have something there about all these meteorological goings-on … by gosh, it’s the Julie Klam Effect!

(And here I all along I thought it had something to do with Jim Cantore.)
