I Was Shot

I need an author photo for my the cover of my new book, The Good House.  So last week, I went into the city for a photo shoot with the amazing Beowulf Sheehan.

I must admit, I was rather intimidated by Beowulf before I met him. I’m just generally intimidated by cool people and Beowulf is really cool. First of all, his name is Beowulf.  He didn’t name himself Beowulf. It’s his given name. That’s a cool name.  And then there’s his portfolio. If you click on the link, you will be greeted by Bono.  Then, proceed to the “writer” link and tell me that you wouldn’t be slightly awed by the assemblage of literary greatness there. So I was very nervous but also excited and in my nervous/excited state (if you want to get all clinical you can call it outright mania) I managed to leave the clothes I wanted to wear in Connecticut.  So I arrived at Beowulf’s studio wearing jeans and a t-shirt and carrying a weird blouse, two shirts belonging to Denis and two sweaters.  He had a hair person and a makeup person there and they immediately set to work.  And we all had a blast. Beowulf is the sweetest cool photographer on earth. He had chosen several locations for the shoot and the final destination was a bar called “Louis” where the photos on this page were taken.  That’s Beowulf with the camera.

This isn’t  Beowulf photo, one of the crew took it:

Yes there was a crew! Here they are. From left: Ajia, Beowulf, Seevon and Takahashi (sp?)

    • Hi Candy,, Some fellow Chicago DL News:

Denis Leary might be coming back to TV in a new comedy he is co-writing and developing for USA Network.

The plot, called Sirens, is based on a U.K. series about three EMTs “trying to make it through yet another shift. But once they’ve finished saving other people’s lives, they need to salvage their own.”

The pilot is set in Chicago and will be shot on locations throughout the city in late October. If the show is picked up, the entire series will likely be filmed in Chicago as well.

      • I wonder if it is on Milwaukee Ave by Gladestone Park, there has been so much movie activity over there lately. It all looks so exciting.

Ann you look fantastic!!! When I leave things behind, like clothing, believe me one can tell something is missing. Love what you’re wearing. You are so slim – you should be a model! Sounds like an amazing time.

  14. Alan (the true original) says:

A cool photographer guy named Beowulf has crew members named Ajia, Seevon, and Takahashi. I’m seeing a pattern here….

All this build-up to the publication of your book is very exciting. Thanks for sharing! (Methinks we’re all getting a little anxious right along with you.)

  23. Wow, what a lovely piece. Ann, I’m happy to write what an energetic, warm, ebullient soul you are – but I’d be repeating myself. Thank you for a wonderful day with Seevon, Tashi, Ajia, and you. I’m very happy with the work, too.

  24. Hi Ann
You and the other readers are in my prayers. I am very concerned about hurricane Sandy coming to the N East. Please and I am sure you know to do so get ready because you may have no power for weeks.

If Mary L post is correct Denis is in Chicago. I really hate to think of you there alone although the EMTs will surely need your help.

  25. I saw your new book mentioned on another blog I sometimes read, and I’m really looking forward to its release. Good luck, and enjoy your gorgeous horses. :)

  26. Hi Ann,

What most impresses me about you is not your looks, it is the fact that you are willing to feature other writers and their works on your blog.
