If you don’t follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve been spared my brag announcement about my first magazine review of The Good House.
I am just thrilled that Boston Magazine likes my book, especially since it’s set in Massachusetts. Having the very kind reviewer, Matthew Reed Baker call it “one of the best works of Massachusetts fiction in recent memory,” was thrilling. Anyway, it’s always frightening waiting for reviews and you always get some good and bad reviews, so this review was a great Christmas surprise.
We don’t get Boston Magazine, but my sister Meg does, and she took this photo of the article with her phone. Because she’s very clever.
We’ve firmed up some more dates on the Events page of this blog. My first reading/signing will be at the Barnes & Noble in Manhattan on Broadway and 82nd Street. You’re all invited!

Oooh, Ann, I’m excited for you! great news on the review on this blizzardy day here in the northeast.
Congratulations.
Thanks Annie!
brag away – so exciting!
hope they send you copies…. you didn’t find out about it from meg, did you? i have no idea how the literary world works.
I’m sure they will. I knew it was going to come out yesterday or today so I had Meg look for it. I still haven’t seen the actual magazine.
Congratulations, Ann! Waiting for your new book to be available for purchase is a little bit of torture. I searched Boston Magazine’s web site for the article on “The Good House”, but couldn’t find it. Do you know if it’s possible to read it online or is it only available in print?
Hi Betsy, I don’t think they have it online. I looked too!
Another annoying question for you, Ann: On the Good Reads website there are over 600 reviews of “The Good House”. Out of curiosity, I am wondering how so many people obtained advance copies of your book.
I think there are 600 or so who have it on their “to read” list. Only about twenty have rated or reviewed it. All I know is that they do a giveaway on Goodreads. It’s kind of great. When a new book is coming out you can enter to be one of the 25 or so giveaways. The publishers send you Advanced Readers Copies in the hopes that you will review it. Amazon does something called Amazon Vine. YOu can become an Amazon Vine reader and I think you will get lots of ARCs. Not sure how you go about becoming a “vine” member, but it’s a great program for avid readers. Free books!
Congrats! Awesome photo……you look so serious and authorly.
Thanks Amanda
So happy for you. I can’t wait to read the book. I’m so looking forward to meeting you at the Marblehead book store.
Can’t wait to see you Louise!
Just noticed the reviewer’s witty play on words with your name in the article’s title.
Wow, that is so exciting! Looking forward to getting my copy, too!
Oh Ann! I am so happy for you!!! This is wonderful! You must be thrilled. When I saw this blog post I immediately recognized the photo on the magazine page (because you shared the photo shoot pictures with your blog buddies earlier on this blog) and somehow I just felt so incredilbly happy and proud of you. Like you were my work colleague or BFF or sister or cousin or blog buddies or something. (I guess I’m struggling with the connection.) But the point I am trying to make is – thank you for sharing these experiences with us and letting us take part in your journey as a writer and giving us a front seat to all the excitement! You are a very gracious, humble and down to earth person. Congratulations!!!!!
PS Remember if there is a movie, members of the blog (MOB) will be happy to be extras on the set!
Thanks so much Christine! That’s a great idea about having all the bloggers be extras. If there’s ever a movie. Which we won’t jinx by acting as if there will be one. There won’t. Which is fine.
I’m losing my mind.
Mighty nice!!
Have already ordered through Hickory Stick.
You must be getting just a tiny bit excited
I am Carol, and thanks for ordering from the Hickory Stick!
Can you come to Washington DC? Politics and Prose favorite bookstore?
Yes, come to DC!
It’s not on my schedule yet, but perhaps in the future!
Hi, I’m so happy for you. I did speak to the people at my local library.
They put in a request for your new novel.
I have to get my own copy though. So excited.
Take care,Angela
Thanks Angela!
Oh my,, the excitment is roaring. I am wondering with all this publicity if Chicago will turn into a banded event.. Congrats Ann!!
If you’re all wondering what Mary is talking about, when Denis did a signing in Chicago, the bookstore, I think t was a B&N, made people come early and buy wristbands (is that right Mary?). Something like that. They do that for celeb events, but that won’t be the case for my event. First, it’s not at a major chain, and there definitely won’t be that kind of turnout. So come one, come all!
Yes, that is correct Ann!! Didn’t mean to scare anyone away. Happy New Year Everyone
Way to go Sis! I’ll be on the lookout for it. Proud of you!
Thanks Paul!
Ann,
Will you be doing a signing at J. Julia’s in Madison, Ct.?
Stephanie
CONGRATS! You must feel fantastic! Great pic!!!
Soooo excited to get my copy. I’m hoping it arrives in time for next week’s NYC signing!
Counting down the days until it’s released, Ann!
