On Wednesday night, I did a reading/book signing at the Manhattan Upper West Side Barnes & Noble. Well, I should say, I did the signing and the amazingly talented Mary Beth Hurt did the reading! Mary Beth is the narrator of the audio version of The Good House and I’ve blogged before about how thrilled I am with her rendition of Hildy. So it was wonderful to sit back and listen to her read from my book on Wednesday night. Then I answered questions from a wonderfully packed audience. So many friends were there, and so many people that I had not yet met .

Denis, along with my dear friends and fellow Hash Hags, Julie Klam and Laura Zigman threw a lovely party for me afterward and I saw lots of old friends and met a few new friends as well.
And as I mentioned in a prior post, Laura and Julie had the whole party roaring with laughter at their wonderful speech.
It was a great, great night.

Ann what a great night. So happy it went well, and it looks like a great group of people showed up
I can’t wait to read it! The US Pond Hockey Championship is going on this weekend, but it looks like Denis is pretty busy being a great husband
Have a wonderful weekend!

You look beautiful! Love the dress…glad it was such a fun evening.
I’m not sure that we’ll be able to muster quite as much star power at your February 9th book-signing at the Hickory Stick Bookshop, but we’ll certainly do our best. Perhaps Laura Zigman’s Frenemy will make an appearance:

Thanks for posting this Alan. So funny!
You look absolutely lovely,, perfect hair, dress and that smile is amazing. So very happy for your continue success.
And you were worried no one would show up at your readings!
If the wonderful Mary Beth Hurt is reading the audio version, I may have to get it again in that format.
I don’t think I have seen her live since she did A Delicate Balance on Broadway some time ago. And I read she is doing it again at the Mc Carter in NJ soon, although this time in a different role, of course. Anyway, this is just another sign that your book is blessed with good omens. Best.
She’s just amazing!
Loved the book, in fact I didn’t get much done after buying it!
Your empathy, irony, and specific observations kept me locked in. Easy to see why it got optioned.
Awesome, Ann!!
Enjoy your success and your friends. Not to mention your husband. Hickory Stick let me know my signed copy is on its way! Can’t wait to read it and see what all the great reviews are talking about! Thanks for sharing your amazing party.
Finished the book last night – what fun to see all the familiar names and places (and local characters!) Looking forward to seeing you in Madison.
Great, so glad to hear you will be there.
What a wonderful night and great start for your book tour!
Thanks for sharing the photos. Looks like a great night with good friends. And may I say your dress is gorgeous! Paired with your signature leather jacket….perfection!
You look beautiful! Not surprised by the great turn out. But DARN, HECK FIRE,ETC…I keep blowing off commitments so that I can keep reading this book. But then I don’t want to finish…darn you Ann Leary!! Can’t wait to see everyone at the Hickory Stick!
Whoa, wait go back Cynthia. Fire?
Heck Fire…it’s kinda a hyphenated expression. Oh dear Lord, I need to move away from Texas again….
oh, HECK FIRE! Is that HELLZAPOPPIN?
Never heard of that one! Ever heard of ” don’t work on Sunday unless the ox is in the ditch!”
Wow, that’s an impressive crowd. Mary Beth Hurt is the one doing the narration as well. We see some pretty big stars there. Miss Katie Holmes, Denis Leary was there!!! I remember him from this show on TV about firemen. He looks very nice. You two are seriously the cutest couple. You almost look eerily alike, Tall and slim.. Will there be any famous people, besides yourself in any MA readings?? Please say yes. Will Denis be there, his whole “Rescue Me” crew and possibly the whole crew from “Friends” and “Seinfeld”. Surely Kramer will show up. We would all be at the signing and look like deer caught in headlights. But that’s okay. I love that the Foxie crowd was there.. They’re a great couple and remember, Taylor Hicks stays awaaaaaaaaay from Michael J. Fox’s son. LOL.. saw the Grammy’s. That was funny. See you soon in Brookline. This is a hit. Nice to see Denis as well. You two matched in colors. Love the dress and jacket..very pretty…. on Denis. LOL.
Christina, I think you meant Taylor Swift, not Taylor Hicks. (Friggin’ scary that I knew that….)
Scarier if it WAS Taylor Hicks.
You look fabulous (as usual) and you are very photogenic! Perfect smile!!! Sounds like quite a night!
Wish I’d heard Laura and Julie’s speech!!!!!
I was so happy to finally meet you at the book signing! My daughter and I had a great time. I can’t put the book down, Hildy is such an entertaining character, you really brought her to life.
You too Grace!
I am really enjoying the book. And after hearing the snippet of Mary Beth Hurt reading the audio version, she is the Hildy I see. I don’t know who chose her to read, but I think she is the perfect Hildy. I think she would be fabulous in the movie, and I do think there will be a movie!
Your party looks fun, and you look so happy, Ann.
What a wonderful night you must have had! We’ve been away visiting the grandkids and I just opened my People last night and was so excited to see your book as Pick of the Week! They don’t give that honor easily; it must be earned. So proud of you and happy for you, Ann, and greatly looking forward to reading the book soon!
