Thanks to all of you who have already purchased copies of The Good House.
I have some upcoming events that you can check out on the EVENTS page of this site. Tomorrow, I’ll be at RJ Julia Booksellers, in Madison, Connecticut at 7:00 PM. If you’ve never been to this bookstore, it is certainly worth the trip. It’s a wonderful bookshop that is known for its great author events. Plus, Madison is charming with several amazing restaurants within walking distance of the book store. So why not make an evening of it? I know it’s going to be chilly, but we’re New Englanders! We love this kind of thing! Right? Am I right?
Of course, if you can’t make it there, you can call them today or tomorrow and I will be happy to personalize a book for you and they will send it off to you. I’ve posted before that I am always happy to do this at my beloved local bookshop, The Hickory Stick Book Shop. Just call them at 860-868-0525. They’re right up the road and I’ll stop in and sign your book for you. If this doesn’t work for you, why don’t I just come to your home in the middle of the night when I’m sure you’ll be there. I’ll just knock on your door until you wake up. Really, I don’t mind the cold. I’ll have my book, and don’t worry I’ll bring my own pen….
Whoa, getting carried away.
Yesterday a photographer was here from The New York Times. Yes, they are going to be running a little piece about my book in the Styles section in a week or two! The photographer asked where I like to write. I explained that I write in bed. And then I let her photograph me writing in bed. Honestly, what is the matter with me? I had built a roaring fire, groomed up the dogs, picked out a cute outfit, and then had her photograph me slouched over a laptop in my bed. She actually asked me if I could move one of the dogs to hide the hole in the bedspread.
I write in this bed in a guest room in our attic. It is actually very cute but unfortunately, yesterday, it didn’t have the attractive covers. Whatever.
Well, hope to see some of you on Friday.

Could you please come to South Dakota and sign my book, Ann? It’s going to be challenging, because well, it’s an ebook. Seriously, congrats on the Times piece, and I love the little attic room.
I’m a little ashamed to admit this but I bought the E version of your book because the only time I get to read is in bed I’m the dark with the lights off these days. Maybe I can drop my phone off at RJ Julia’s and you can sign it with, I don’t know, a dry erase marker? Because I adore you but I kind of still need a workable phone. Or maybe you can just email me a copy of what you might’ve written had I actually bought a real live copy of the book? Or just give me a bit of notice if you plan on coming over in the middle of the night so I can prepare my dogs for your visit.
Wow, this will be great! Come on over, but please come before 9:00 PM, because that’s when I start dealing with my insomnia issues. But on second thought, it would be nice to have company when I’m still awake, which seems to last for days…
Good luck with the next signing, and please just consider keeping Hildy around!
Love love love the book. Stay home write more.
Ann, When are you coming to the Boston area to sign?
xoxo,
lois
LOVE your posts and books, of course.
Hi Lois, I’ll be in Brookline on February 6th!
Please post the picture they took of you in bed, too funny. I can’t wait to see it. Don’t worry, know one will know about the hole in the bedspread.
I won’t be able to see them until they are in newspaper. Which will be next week, I think.
Ann,
How about Hilton Head? Get out of that cold weather like we did this week! We have four empty bedrooms so you could even stay with us.
Than sounds lovely
Congratulations on your excellent review in People magazine
!
Thanks Jan
Where ever inspiration comes from, whether a hole in the spread or not, it seems to work wonderfully for you. Absolutely loved the book,, hoping for a sequel.
Awww!
Door to door visits……Ann, you are too sweet!!!! If you come to my house, (I mean when you come) my son will insist you bring one of your dogs with you!
Love the guest bedroom, reminds me of my first home. It was a Cape and the upstairs bedrooms looked just like that; very cozy.
So good to see that cute little Holly again! You really need to give us an update on all the Leary pets, Ann. And I finished the book, and I miss Hildy!
Love the book!! I got the iBooks version but will get the hardcover too if you come to Tampa!!
Doesn’t match my idea of Louisa May Alcott’s attic, but Wicked Great Stuff coming from your room,!!!
And you dont need to dress in black, to hide ink spills.
I totally covet that room and bed. Looks perfect for working (and procrastinating).
So I finished “The Good House” today. You know how when you’re watching a great movie and there’s a part where you canNOT blink because it’s just so good and you don’t want to miss anything? Yeah, that happened while I was reading. It’s like my eyeballs were fused to the pages. It was awesome.
Also, I honestly can’t remember reading anything before that had a narrator quite like Hildy. So thank you for bringing her to life!
I loved the reading last night! Totally worth the 1.5 hour drive (well, that tells you had badly I needed to get out of the house!) It was great to meet you. I can see why Lisa thinks so highly of you. I hope you do write a book about the animals in your life! Sorry about dropping the cancer bomb when we talked briefly…it just flies out of my mouth at the most bizarre times. Would much rather talk horses! I’d love to pick up your book on marriage and I am considering a road trip to Hickory Stick bookshop to get it signed. It would be a nice New England drive. Again, you gave a great reading, can’t wait to read the book, and I love that you are a supermodel and run EMS. Bad ass!
I love that you write in bed with your dogs! The only place I read is in bed, with my dog (often with her rear end pointed towards my face, so I have to move legs and bun pads to see the book) and a cat or two. I just finished “The Good House” and LOVE it. Every bit of it rings true and I can’t wait for more from you. About to order “An Innocent, A Broad”. Thank you for a wonderful book.
I am so wishing that I had bought the book, as I am in love with it right now. It was my first e-book purchase, funny enough, so I may just have to take you up on the offer to have it personalized at The Hickory Stick if you don’t do another CT signing in the near future (I just found your blog tonight, so I missed the Madison one
…but I will be watching for additional signings in the future!) Looking forward to reading your previous books and all the rest to come! Thank you!
I just finished reading “The Good House” — what a fantastic story! I loved Hildy as well as your remarkably accurate descriptions of life in a small New England coastal town. You are very talented!
