Heading to Boston

Reading at the Book Cellar in Chicago

Reading at the Book Cellar in Chicago

Well, I had just a great time in the Midwest this past week.  Thanks to all of you who came to my Chicago and Milwaukee events.  I met some longtime bloggers in Chicago, which was fabulous.  I also got to have dinner with my sister’s in-laws, Dave and Jen Seminara and their adorable boys. Dave took the photo on this post. So, I just had a great, great time.

I’m heading up to Boston today for some press stuff and also to visit my mom and sister. Then I’m doing a reading at the Brookline Booksmith on Wednesday, February 6th.  7:00 PM.

I was going to bring Holly with me to Boston because I have been missing my family – husband, kids and animals quite a bit during my travels and I thought she would help me not miss them so much. But I cannot. Too many things to do today and it’s too cold to leave her in the car.  She she’ll stay here and keep the bed desk warm.

Speaking of the bed desk, remember how I posted about letting a NY Times photographer take a picture of me slouching in mine?  Well, the piece ran yesterday in the Sunday Styles section. Here’s a link. I had so much fun with Judith Newman, who wrote the piece.

Well, many, many thanks to all of you who have bought my book.  It’s on a few bestseller lists – most notably, THE TIMES!  And that’s thanks to all you readers.  I hope to meet some more of you on Wednesday!

Comments

  1. I read the Times piece online and it was great! But was that the REAL bed desk or the spare bedroom bed desk?

  2. I pictured Meryl playing Hildy as I read the book and Jeff Daniels as Frank. Each article written about The Good House gets better and better!!! I am reading it again with my casted characters and find little hints along the way that I missed before. This is truly a great book and I am very happy for your much deserved success.

  3. Just read times and ordered book. I have alcohol issues for scores of years…love it and hate it. Obviously, love it more. How did you stop? Sixty years old. Haven’t been able to quite hit bottom…maybe I’ll just do a soft landing into the coffin. Can’t wait for the book.

Oh Ann, I wish I could see you in Boston!!!! I’m such a huge fan! Have a wonderful visit.

  5. Have fun!!

  6. Have a great time in Boston! Soon you will be back home again! I loved the Times piece but disagreed with the casting of Meryl (as much as I love her). Ever since listening to Mary Beth Hurt read at your New York signing she is who I picture as Hildy. She had such a great voice!

  7. Ann, I need to order my signed copy from The Hickory Stick. Should I just order and they will give you a call? Let me know. How exciting this all is. Enjoy. Love the pic.

    • Candy,, you can just call them and order over the phone. Everyone who works there is very helpful.. 860-868-0525. Tell them it’s for Ann’s signing, she will be there on the 9th.

  8. Marsha from Massachusetts says:

Finished the book & LOVED it! Caught me with some of those surprise twists & turns. I’ve lent the book to The Mother to read with the understanding that i will pick up ON MY WAY TO BROOKLINE & that I will return it to The Mother to finish it AFTER I have Ms. Leary’s signature on it or even a dog paw print will do. I do have quite a Leary Lending Library. Most people now check with me if they want something of yours or Denis’s to read. I’m looking forward to meeting you. Must make sure I get the dog crap off the bottom of my boots & use the lint roller to remove as much horse hair off my jacket so I will look respectable for Brookline.

  9. Donna Washburn says:

Great article and photo! I was going to send my daughter to see you in Brookline, but she has class at Emerson College – hey, maybe you or Denis have some pull to get her out of class!! I’m still working on trying to see you in Vero Beach – 3 hour drive from St. Augustine – could be a Road Trip! Have fun in Boston – stay warm.

  10. Christine says:

My first reaction to this post….I love the way your hair looks!!!! Great picture!

Sorry you are feeling a little homesick, but I can see how much you are enjoying the book signings and readings. Very special time in your life….very exciting!

  11. Cynthia formerly of Westchester says:

What a great article! You came across as the woman that everyone would want to be friends with, and there are a few men here that now have little crushes on you. I kid you not. One comment I heard, “refreshing honesty”.
As for casting…I’m still with Meryl. For Frank, Chris Cooper. And for Hildy’s former husband? Victor Garber.
And as for the adaptation? You and Denis as co-writers!!
    See you guys Saturday!

  12. Christina says:

Happy for your success and the movie that will surely be made of this. If they don’t someone is crazy in Hollywood…. so here’s to your much deserved success.. We can’t wait to meet you. Hi Ann,
Well, winter storm Charlotte is certainly throwing a monkey wrench into our Saturday plans to pick up our copies of The Good House, meet you and maybe even have a quick chat about Gabriel, Mark and especially Zidane. Any chance you might consider rescheduling the signing for February 9th at the Hickory Stick? Any date except March 3rd is good for me (New England Pinto year end banquet). I so wanted to say hello.
      Cher

  13. Hi Ann, Some time ago I saw your house featured in “Equestrian Lifestyle Magazine” (beautiful by the way). Following that I loosely read your blog. While I was in NYC I saw an autographed copy of the “The Good House” at B&N. I decided to take a chance and buy it. I am so glad I did. I couldn’t put it down, and even finished it in a day. After that I decided to take a sabbatical from drinking. I am also the “black out, everyone is mad at the next day” drunk. Thanks so much, your truly have changed my life for the better.

  14. Jen Seminara says:

It was great to see you and Meg! I just finished the book tonight – it was a good read.

    All my best,
    Jen Seminara

  15. Do you ever pinch yourself, at having your dreams come true?

    Horses, NYT best seller?

    Book tours?

Do you ever, just pinch yourself?

    Congrats.
