My Escort

It’s a daytime event, Gomer. Maybe just a nice blazer instead?

Yes, yes, there is a little snowstorm coming.  And, yes, I am scheduled to appear at The Hickory Stick Book Shop,  my favorite bookstore, tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:00 PM to sign copies of The Good House.  But don’t worry. The snow will be over by then.  How can I be so sure? I have a few connections. I happen to know Scot Haney personally and I’ve asked him to do some meteorological work on the forecast.  I think he’s moved the storm east a little, so the brunt will be felt in Massachusetts, which is fine, because they love the snow up there. They just love it.  You should see them outside after a storm with their snow shovels and tire chains, sporting about like playful penguins.  So thanks for that Scot.  And my good friend Leah’s husband is on the road crew in the town of Washington and even though he is at this moment lying in bed, shivering and sweating with fever, she has promised to dose him up with TheraFlu and TamiFlu and DayQuil and NyQuil and GetoffyersickbuttQuil and so the roads will all be clear by 2:00.

BUT, if for some reason you are unable to make it, I will still be happy to sign books for you.  Just call the Hickory Stick at their toll free number: 800-255-2665 and they’ll take your order. But try to come.  Gomer will be escorting me.

  1. Bad enough I’m missing this signing, but I’m missing Gomer, too! Sigh…#he’smyfave.
    Have a great event!

  2. Sure hope all can get there, good luck with that. That’s one handsome escort!

  3. “sporting about like playful penguins” — ha ha!!

SO looking forward to meeting Gomer!! … oh, all right, I guess it will be kind of OK to see you again too.

Stay warm, everyone, and here’s hoping our lights all stay on!

  4. Have a wonderful event! How special to speak of “The Good House” at your favorite bookstore..that must be a dream come true! I hope you will come to the Bay Area in California on your book tour.

  5. Where can I buy some GetoffyersickbuttQuil?

  6. I’m so looking forward to it! Good to know that the Hick will put aside copies. Hoping this storm cooperates. Be safe everyone during our BLIZZARD of 2013

  7. Joletta Windley says:

I just spoke to one of the nice ladies at The Hickory Stick and have ordered my book — seeing as I can’t make it to any of your signings — and I don’t think you are coming to Canada — I decided to splurge and order an autographed copy!!

I have never, ever had any of my books signed by the author — so you are my first!! :)

Hopefully you & Gomer have a wonderful day tomorrow!

    • Ann Leary says:

Joletta, I JUST signed your book! Yes, the Hickory Stick gets books out faster than Amazon. And with signatures! Thanks so much for ordering the book. Hope you enjoy it!

  8. Yeah, Ann you may be signing books by candlelight tomorrow.
Oh we’ll. You could do some psychic stuff ;;)
I’m really glad Gomer will be there too — He can keep everybody warm if there’s no heat.

  9. As long as (1) my snowblower doesn’t crap out on me, (2) I can get down my somewhat steep driveway, and (3) the roads between my little town and Washington (CT) are plowed and clear, I hope to be at the Hickory Stick on Saturday afternoon (though I’m thinking that the trip will take longer than the usual 50 minutes).

I’m looking forward to (finally) buying a copy of The Good House, having it signed, meeting Gomer, and catching up with several friends. Now if only Snowzilla will cooperate….

  10. Calling now to order! Good luck w/ the snow!

  11. Jenny from Canada says:

    Hi Ann,
I too am from Canada, and would love to have a signed copy of your new book. It is in our book store here in Kingston, but I thought I would hold off buying one in the case that I would be able to get a signed one. I spoke with the Hickory Stick book shop owner this morning. Looking forward to reading it!!! So excited for you.

    Jenny

  12. Good Morning! It seems our Governor has shut down our roads this morning – apparently he is unaware that Ann has a signing today? Let’s hope he opens them before 2

  13. Babs Johnson says:

    Hi Ann,

I hope the roads are open for the book signing which sounds like it will be such a fun event! Tell Gomer that Bert Johnson wants to know where he got those cool duds. He thinks he would wow his friends at the dog park in a similar ensemble.

Fingers crossed that your event goes forward. Hope those of us far away can see a video clip of it.

    Babs

  14. Christine says:

Ann, I was planning on coming today but the governor said I CAN’T!!! Can you believe his nerve?!!! I told him that the family was coming to see you and Gomer for a book signing and he still said,” NO!!!!” I only have 3 feet of snow on my deck. I think it was worse the winter of 2011 and 1978 when I was living in NYC. Stay safe everyone!

  15. Cynthia formerly of Westchester says:

Ok, I cancelled my trip into NYC because of this STUPID STORM!!
Gee…some of us would be THRILLED if this event were to be postponed!! Whichever happens, I will miss and LOVE YOU GUYS!! Please be safe driving, talking to you, KC, and Bev!! Aislinn won’t be able to make it in either!
