I know what you’re all wondering. Will he be there?

Of course he will.  Right after his lunch.

  1. Baby’s num nums indeed! Too funny! So sorry I missed your book signing at Vroman’s, Ann. I loved the book, and really wanted to be there to meet you.

  2. does holly know about this?

    • Ann Leary says:

Not yet Lisa. I would bring her but she’s gotten really cranky when it comes to kids wanting to pet her. She’s not a kid lover. Gomer loves all the people so he’s coming along.

  3. That face can always put a smile on mine. Glad to see, I am not the only one who lets my
    dogs use our kitchen untensils!

Hope to make your book signing today.

  4. Jennifer Cosenza says:

Love it! He looks like he would like some peanut butter next.

  5. ‘Bout time. Don’t you know you’re supposed to be blogging every day? Buzz, woman! or are you simply Twittering (and I’m not Following)? I loved the book. Your voice came through, as well as Hildy’s, of course…

  6. Christine says:

Ann, it was a great afternoon! You are so funny, warm and welcoming. Loved the reading and meeting all your fans. It was a very big turnout! I am not surprised. (I told my husband we should camp outside the bookstore the night before.) PS Gomer is such a love! :)

  7. Aislinn says:

Yes, Gomer is a love. A big love, and such a good boy.

The reading was wonderful. Ann, I don’t think you expected to see so many people, did you?

It was great to see the familiar faces, and some new ones too.

    I love the book!

  8. If there was a “like” button on this post, I would click it. What a face! :) Congrats on a great turnout!

  9. wait! there is a “Like” button! ha! I didn’t see that before! lol.

  10. I just bought my copy of The Good House! I’m so excited to start reading it. I did buy it from Books a Million. I meant to order it from your local bookstore, but I went with a friend today. When I saw it, I couldn’t wait any longer. I’ll do better next time. I promise.

  11. Sad to miss a great party, awesome people, and GOMER at Hickory Stick, but had a great time at Vrohman’s!
Hope to see the CT folks in the near future.
You and The Good House certainly deserve all sorts of accolades and attention!

  12. No offense to you, Ann, but when I first stumbled on your blog this was the featured content and I fell pretty hard for Gomer. I’ve got a soft spot for quirky oversized pups. But I quickly learned that you’re just as wonderful so I stuck around and very much enjoy your blog. I guess I have a soft spot for sweet as pie authors, too. Sorry I missed the signing, a certain newborn had me otherwise occupied. Please say heyyyy to Gomer for me.

  13. You, The Good House—-and now GOMER!—-how I wish I could have been there!

  14. Hi Ann,

I am inspired to write a note in the comments section of your blog mainly because I fell in love with your book “The God House” and the surly protagonist, Hildy. Just truly fell in love. The themes in the book of alcoholic denial, selfishness, shrewdness, shame, avoidance of grace (and honesty) and then finally redemption and trust in aonther human – these themes are very near and dear to my heart on a personal level. Down to the whay you worked in the lyrics in the christmas carol “‘Til he apprear’d and the soul felt it’s worth” which has always gotten to me viscerally. Literally I finished the last page of the book on vacation and tried to give it to someone I met at the pool (she was from Boston and an avid reader) because I just wanted to pass it on to someone else to enjoy (she had already downloaded it on her Kindle based on my recommendation).

I actually began writing out a plan for an adapted screenplay (for fun and for personal reasons) and saw that the film rights have been optioned (not that I had any illusions as a total hack and amateur, mind you – I may still do it as an exercise because writing a screenplay is on my bucket list). The book is begging to be made into a film. I personally like to envision Patricia Clarkson as Hildy but see how that would be a dream role for many an actress.

I don’t typically slobber all over people like this, but wanted to comment on how much I loved the book, love Hildy, and loved the story that sprang forth from your brain. What a gift you have.

    Best,

    Meghan Townsend Van Someren

  15. Stephanie says:

What a great turnout for your book signing! Enjoyed your talk and reading and the chance to say hello and
meet you. Also, how happy I am Gomer came along. He was sitting there like the “best boy” taking in all the admiring fans. So, I got a chance to pet him. He is even more handsome in person. It was a very
nice afternoon. Can’t wait to start reading your book. I wish you continued success.

  16. Ann, really enjoyed meeting you at the Vroman’s reading. I blogged about it here if you are curious.
http://bridgetstraub.com/2013/02/28/to-live-die-in-l-a/ I just finished the book and now can’t wait to read your others.

  17. For those of you who are interested, here’s a link to a bunch of photos that I took this past Sunday at Ann’s book-signing at the Hickory Stick: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u6ki84lv8gplgr1/a5dRAguBMr?m

Plenty of pics of Ann and Gomer (my now-favorite canine), as well as Arliss and her daughter Madeleine (sp?); KC, her husband Matt, and their very cute baby Lyra; formerly-of-Westchester Cynthia (the unofficial dog-sitter for the event); and, oh yeah, some old, bald guy.

  18. Thanks, Alan, was fun seeing Gomer, Ann, and some of the original gang from the blog.

  19. Thanks, Alan!

  20. Christina says:

The dog is so cute. What is he eating yogurt? What an expressive face…
