Okay, I haven’t blogged in a few days because I’ve been trying to get organized. I’m having surgery on Monday. I hesitate to tell the world wide web the nature of my surgery, because it’s: a)gynecological, b) an old lady’s operation and c) who cares? But I worry that if I don’t reveal the exact nature of the surgery, people will suspect I’m having a facelift or something. SO I’m having a hysterectomy.
I found this lovely image while doing my endless research on the web. Really, don't click on this if you're not into gross stuff. I love gross stuff myself:
Congratulations! It's a tumor!
Everyone asks the same questions when you tell them you’re having a hysterectomy so I’ll answer those questions right off the bat. Fibroids, abdominal incision, no driving for three weeks, no tennis for 6-8. Please don’t send me {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}. I’m from New England and that kind of thing creeps me out a little. Just pretend I didn’t tell you.
The reason I decided to announce it is because while I’m in the hospital, I’m going to run some of my favorite old blogs. And I am also going to try to convince my husband to be a “Guest Blogger” for a few days. So, I will miss blogging for a few days but I’m sure I will come away with some amusing stories from the recovery ward. My entire first book, An Innocent, A Broad was set in a hospital so I’m used to writing about all the goings on there.

Ann, You will be in my thoughts and prayers...Laughter is truly the best medicine and with your sense of humor, you will do wonderful....
As a nurse and also having been a patient at times, I have seen both sides of the spectrum, definetly there is amusement....
Look forward to you being back on the blog...

Ok - I won't send you (((((((HUGS))))))).. Guess that is more a Southern thing!
But I will keep you and yours in my prayers that the surgery goes by the book and your recovery is uneventful!
Personally - I envy you! I will be 56 in Nov, and I still get the surprise deliveries from my uterus every few months! My Dr. says I should be grateful, as I do not have the neck or hands of a 55 year old! OK - I'm grateful - but come on - enough is enough! Of course now I have visions of becoming Mrs. Dorian Gray - so I plan on stocking up on age defying creams and lotions.
You will do great - as you are already healthy and fit. That is half the battle in it's self.
Think of all the new material you will have for a new book or an episode of "IN HOSPITAL".
That would be great if your "guest blogger" could keep us up to date on your progress. :) :)
We promise not to overwhelm him too much!
God Bless.....

Ok, I'll pretend you didn't say anything. I'm not a native New Englander, but living amongst them I know how they can get creeped out by the touchy, feely over-affection. No hugs, but perhaps an internet handshake? I think it would look something like this: ~~.
Good idea on gathering material while in the hospital! Every thing is indeed fodder for writing great stories. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Hope all goes swimmingly; will keep good thoughts and prayers aloft on your behalf.
What is it with this aging thing? (I'm Suzy Slipped Disc this weekend...ugh.)
Wishing you smooth procedures, swift recovery, an accommodating "guest blogger" (who hopefully will cater to your bed-ridden whims as well), and a speedy return to Blogland with a new spectrum of tales to tell.

Ann
I have just discovered your blog and am entirely enchanted by it. I am sorry to hear however, that you are going under the knife!
Those damn fibroids really are a nuisance!! I escaped the knife just by the skin of my teeth after having 2 c-sections.
You're in great shape -(envy here!!) so recovery will be fast. Think of all the fodder you'll have for that next book!!
Best wishes!!

I'll be sending good vibes and thoughts your way on Monday. Having your husband as a guest blogger would be a treat, but first and foremost, his energies should be focused toward doting on you.

Ann:
My thoughts will be with you on Monday. I hope you won't have to be in the hospital very long. Recuperating in your gorgeous home will be the best medicine, especially with your wonderful husband in attendance. As the other bloggers said, it would be great if Denis could update us periodically as to how you are doing. We all will miss your insightful and entertaining writing, but your continued health and well-being are more important. As Susie wrote, your honesty is beyond admirable. And thank you for trusting us with something so personal. Take good care of yourself, Ann. Your physical fitness will help you bounce back from the surgery, I'm sure. I look forward to reading a new blog from you as soon as you are feeling strong enough. You will be missed! My sincere best wishes.

I've been reading for a few months and have yet to comment, but wanted to wish you good luck. I went through the same procedure at 13. Mine was endometriosis, LAVH, and no hockey for 3 months. My only side effect dealt with keeping my bone density normal for a teenager. Again, good luck and my prayers are with you.

Ann ~ It's Wedensday and I hope you are able to get up and about. I had mine 2 years ago and boy oh boy bring on the toradol and percocet!!! I feel so much better now, just to let you know it does get better. Best of luck to you and I look forward to reading about your experience. FYI ~ hystersisters.com is a great site for people who have had hysterectomy's. I am also a nurse and I was on that site for months so I know it is good info and support. It took me about a year to get fully back to normal (not that I ever was) lol.
Hope you write another book soon, I thouroughly enjoyed Outakes and passed it along to my friends.
Susan.
