Yes, we have arrived safely in Paris. But, on our way here, we stopped in New York to attend the annual benefit for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. I’m too exhausted right now to go into detail about two of the most inspirational, intelligent, funny and truly beautiful people I know – Tracy Pollan and Michael Fox, but one day I will devote a blog to the work that these two have done toward finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. If you’ve read either of Michael’s books, you know he’s a true optimist and he believes that a cure will be found but also believes you must work hard for what you want, so, to date, his foundation has raised 170 million dollars toward that goal. Last night he raised a little bit more with the help of some friends.
Who can name each rock and roll legend in the above photo?
Thanks to those who complimented me on my skirt in the comments of previous entry. I need to take posing lessons or something. Just what am I doing with my hand on my bum?

Liz L gave me a great idea for a classy (!) holiday toast with her Dorothy Parker poem last week about Martinis … ending with 3 leaving her under the table and 4 under the host … I posted it as my FB status and got a reply from a friend who quoted an even better Dorothy Parkerism to me … she was asked to do something and replied “I’m too F***ing busy … and vice versa” … i’m still laughing at it and waiting to slip it into a conversation!!!
Julie – you’re so right, Ann really is our hero, isn’t she. That is the perfect word!
Ann, thanks so much for taking us along! And wow, rubbing elbows (and chic outfits) with all those history-makers, too cool. I love MJF and fam, wonderfully inspiring. No Tracy, it’s not just you. This year I am going to tell my entire family (at the festive dinner table) how thankful I am that I have all of you guys, and our beautiful hero Ann.
My daughter is in her first year of college here in NH. Steven Tyler lives in the next town over and uses the gym at her college. She often sees him at the pharmacy, grocery store, etc. She was impressed that he is able to blend into this small college town so well. Nobody really bothers him.
Ann,
Love the pics from Paris. Looking at the Pics from MJF,my son knew two of them..Guess which 2?… Steven Tyler and Denis. Had to explain who the rest of them were. I’m gettin old.. Great cause, the guy who was best man (1st marriage), has Parkinson’s, back then…early 80’s,he had had numerous operations in his childhood and he had the tremors…we all assumed he just partied too much.(Ya know what happens when you assume…). Have a great time in Paris.
p.s. you look great in the pic with hubby.
Oh yeah, the pic is beautiful!!!!
Ann,
Thanks for taking us along to Paris. Have a wonderful time with your family.
Christine
You look very pretty in the photo with your husband.
Forgot, is anyone else having the urge to casually name drop by saying “Oh, Ann and Denis and the kids are in Paris for Thanksgiving.” Or am I the only crazy one? lolololol I feel like I’m in on this wonderful secret and I want to flaunt my knowledge. But if I said anything to friends or family, they’d just look at me blankly and say “Oh, ok.” I guess it’s related to the “Ann says…” hehehe
Love that poem Candy! So true. I just don’t give a darn what anyone thinks anymore!
I’m going to confess that I didn’t have a clue who Dorothy Parker was until this blog. There, I said it. Yes, I am a philistine. Or was prior to this blog. I’m going to have to check her out.
Forgot to say earlier that Elvis C was delightful on Colbert last week. Very funny and charming despite having a very froggy voice. Since he couldn’t sing, he played guitar while Stephen sang. lololol I’ve always thought Elvis C was one really cool dude.
Lovely picture, just like a postcard. Everyone has named the famous faces; must have been a great, inspirational night. hope you are having a wonderful time …
And Candy, you are so right…a poem that is fun, and best of all, I get it !! Thank you so much.
Thanks for the poem Candy. I love me some Dorothy Parker poetry!
Roger Daltrey, Stevie Tyler, Greg Allman, John Popper and Elvis Costello. Enjoy Paris! Oh, and Dr. Love helped me with answer. Low Tides rules.. from Sean
Ann – You look fabulous in the photo – even with your hand on your bum! I love the jacket. Tres chic!
Ah, Paris. The photo does look like a postcard. It’s one of my favorite cities. Should be nice this time of year without any crowds. Looking forward to photos and posts from Paris. Have a wonderful time – lots of delicious food and wine.
Michael J. Fox is truly an inspiration.
A Bientot,
Linda
P.S. Candy – thanks for the Dorothy Parker poem. She was very quotable.
I think the cutey with the glasses and white shirt is Michael’s son Sam (always remember his name ‘cuz my kid is a Sam too). Enjoy Paris Ann. Looking forward to your posts.
Several people where commenting on Dorothy Parker the other day so I found this one:
In youth, it was a way I had
To do my best to please,
And change with every passing lad,
To suit his theories.
But now I know the things I know,
And do the things I do;
And if you do not like me so,
To hell, my love, with you!
I think I like this woman. Poem posted in Ann’s absence, and I am sure we can all understand this little gem!
Let’s see, from left to right (I’m really dating myself) Greg Alman, wicked funny guy from Wista in leather jacket, no idea who young kid is, Elvis Costello, Roger Daltry, Parkinson’s disease fighter & hockey player MJ Fox, Blues Traveler guy who sings & plays harmonica, our home boy Steven Tyler (who my ex met in The Rat bathroom before Aerosmith became famous).
Your pose looks fab.
What do the French think of Denis? Do they think he’s funny? Strange question I know but this is the coutry that thinks Jerry Lewis is the bomb.
Amusez-vous bien!
Glad to hear from ya, all the people I know have already been guessed in the photo. Loved you leather jacket you had on the other night, very pretty. Going to print the pic, can’t wait for more. Be careful, signed: the worrier.
Gregg Allman, Elvis Costello, Jon Popper, Roger Daltrey and Steven Tyler.
LOVE Michael J. Fox and all the work he and his wife are doing for Parkison’s Disease. His story/book was so inspiring and such a reminder to me, that when I start to complain of my MINOR problems, people with bigger challenges are out there that puts everything in perspective.
Enjoy Paris and your Thanksgiving! Safe Travels…
I second all the guesses. If the tall guy isn’t John Popper, I’d guess either Penn or Teller – can never remember which is which. Don’t know who the young kid is, unless it’s one of MJF’s kids.
MJF and Tracy really are inspiring. When I read about their love, dedication, and hard work, it always brings me to tears.
Paula “A smiling, very relaxed, deaf-mute person.” rotflmao!
Ann, you have to explain the twitter post about Denis making an enemy when you boarded the plane. Vite!
oh and when I said ENJOY I meant Paris not the rumpty tumpty part with Denis…….. but hey while i am at it.. enjoy both!
Have fun in Paris! I love the pic you guys are very photogenic! I love the skirt but love the jacket more… I ordered a leather jacket on line yesterday but love yours more! wahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Enjoy!
Can I be you for just a couple of days…please?? Look forward to reading about MJF, his wife Tracy and their Foundation after you get your much needed sleep!! Flying can really take it out of you… Enjoy beautiful Paris!
Love the pic!!!!! Glad you all made it safely and now onto a fun vacation!!!
I recognize Steven Tyler, Gregg Allman…
Make sure to take a stroll through the Marais..my husband and I just spent a week in Paris and it’s true-there is nowhere in the world more romantic! Although I did get a little tired of doing all the communicating with my mediocre French while he took the role of a deaf-mute person. A smiling, very relaxed, deaf-mute person.
I don’t recognize the guy between Denis and Elvis, but I think the big guy in back is John Popper from Blues Traveler. I love Michael J Fox.
Snazzy photo of you and the hubby. And I love the photo of rainy Paris. Belle pluie!
So glad you arrived safely, boy, I believe you are exhausted! Nothing more tiring than overseas travel, and jet lag.
I also want to say how gorgeous the photo, outfit, and pose in the pic.
I admire Michael and his wife for the work they do on behalf of Parkinson’s disease. My Mom died of that dreadful affliction.
Have a super time this week!
: )
Hi Ann, wow, that top picture could be a postcard, just beautiful. Looks a little rainy, I hope you’re not getting all that awful rain that hit England.
Gregg Allman (?), Elvis Costello, Roger Daltry, and Steven Tyler are the only rockers I will guess. My rock star trivia isn’t so good.
Dear Ann, You need NO lessons! (And I don’t believe you could EVER be a rube—and I know what I’m talkin’ about in that department!) Elegant, witty and charmingly self-deprecating—but never a rube!
Now for the quiz:Gregg Allman, Elvis Costello, Roger Daltrey and Steven Tyler?
Have a blast in Paris—and an (early) happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Lynne
P.S. Michael’s momma raised him right. I once heard (read?) a story that she put ALL the kids’ trophies, awards, etc. in the same display case—If I remember correctly, his Emmy sits alongside his sister’s curling trophy! She values all of her kids and their achievements equally.
