Connecticut Happenings

Yesterday I was on Better Connecticut to discuss The Good House with the fabulous Scot Haney.

While I was waiting backstage, I met a very lovely actress named Brooke Tinsley.

Brooke, who has performed in many Broadway hits, was appearing on the show to help promote From Broadway With Love, a benefit performance for the families of Sandy Hook which is taking place this Monday, January 28, at the Palace Theater in Waterbury Connecticut.  Many famous Broadway actors and actresses from your favorite shows will be in Waterbury on Monday to help raise money for Sandy Hook.  What a great way to spend a cold Monday night. Welcome to my Bed

Thanks to all of you who have already purchased copies of The Good House.

I have some upcoming events that you can check out on the EVENTS page of this site. Tomorrow, I’ll be at RJ Julia Booksellers, in Madison, Connecticut at 7:00 PM.  If you’ve never been to this bookstore, it is certainly worth the trip. It’s a wonderful bookshop that is known for its great author events. Plus, Madison is charming with several amazing restaurants within walking distance of the book store. So why not make an evening of it?  I know it’s going to be chilly, but we’re New Englanders! We love this kind of thing! Right? Am I right?

Posing with Mary Beth Hurt

Posing with Mary Beth Hurt

On Wednesday night, I did a reading/book signing at the Manhattan Upper West Side Barnes & Noble.  Well, I should say, I did the signing and the amazingly talented Mary Beth Hurt did the reading!  Mary Beth is the narrator of the audio version of The Good House and I’ve blogged before about how thrilled I am with her rendition of Hildy.  So it was wonderful to sit back and listen to her read from my book on Wednesday night.  Then I answered questions from a wonderfully packed audience.  So many friends were there, and so many people that I had not yet met .

People’s “Pick of the Week”

On Tuesday, the day, The Good House was published,  I woke up at 4 AM, which was, of course too early. I tried to go back to sleep because I needed to be my sharpest self that day. I had a radio interview with Leonard Lopate at 1:00.  A live interview. Yes, it would be broadcast live to a million listeners all at once, so I needed to get sleep.

Sleep, I ordered my jittery brain. Go the f%^$ to sleep.

A Bit of News

I know you’re all probably getting tired of my constant blogging about the new book. The book doesn’t even come out for another month but I keep carrying on about it as if there’s nothing else going on in my life.  There are two reasons for this: A) My wonderful publishers at St Martins Press think it’s important to give people plenty of notice that the book is about to be published, and then to keep reminding the people, over and over again. It seems to be a sort of brainwashing of the populace they have in mind, with all the tweeting, Facebooking and blogging.  Also, B) I have nothing else going on in my life.

The Foxiest Couple in America

Last night we attended the annual fundraiser for Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson Foundation.  I hope you’ll click on the link to learn more about this amazing foundation and all the great strides that have been made in the fields of research and medicine thanks to the many, many millions that have been raised by this great charity that was started by Michael and his wife Tracy Pollan.

SEMINAR with Alan Rickman

Last night,  Denis and I attended the opening night of Seminar, Broadway’s newest play, starring the amazing Alan Rickman. We both loved, I mean we really, really LOVED this play.

It’s a comedy about a fiction writing seminar taught by Alan Rickman, and if you have ever been in a writing workshop or seminar or have been in any situation where you must reveal something you have created for the scrutiny of others, you’ll be laughing one moment and squirming in agony the next, while watching this play. Rickman is fabulous as the ruthless/borderline sadistic writing teacher who, after glancing at the first sentence, trashes a story that a young woman (Lily Rabe) has worked on for years.  Other members of the workshop are played by Jerry O’Connell and Hamish Linklater.

Big News

This was the style when I started writing the book. I'm slow.

I am THRILLED to announce that my latest novel will be published by St Martin’s Press with the brilliant Brenda Copeland as my editor.

Tony Bennett, Dogs, Hags

Tony Bennett and Aretha Franklin

It was a beautiful weekend here in New England.  Devin came home on Saturday night, we had a nice dinner with her and watched a movie. We just enjoyed the outdoors and our animals. Let’s see, what else?   Oh yes, there was one other thing – Denis and I crashed Tony Bennett’s birthday party.
