The Finale

On Wednesday, I drove into the city for the Rescue Me finale party.  For some reason, I had thought this was going to be sort of like a “wrap party” for cast and crew, but once I arrived in the city, I learned that it was going to be a slightly bigger deal, with a red carpet and press and everything.

A Recap

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE RAPTURE, by Ann Leary

Twas the night before Rapture and all through West Bank
Not a creature was stirring – the new co-host stank.
The audience had purchased their tickets with care,
In hopes that some merriment would be had for them there.

But Cindy Kaplan with her music and all of her humor
Came to realize her guest host was worse than a tumor.
Ann had came unprepared – when she tried to be funny,
The audience cried out: “Give us back our money!”

Lights! Camera! Action!

As many of you are probably aware, it is no longer enough to spend months and often years writing a book. Today an author must help sell the book, and by sell, I mean she must make each and every person in the northern hemisphere aware of obsessed with the book. She must make them understand that they need the book in order to survive in today’s world. She must make them wake up each morning and ask, “if not now, when? If not me, who? If not the …”

Wait, I’m not sure those are the questions.

Canal Street Sunset

This weekend I was in Manhattan, attending the final show of Denis’s Rescue Me Comedy Tour, which was being taped for a Comedy Central special.  Very funny show with Denis, Lenny Clarke, Adam Ferrara and Whitney Cummings.  I had seen Denis, Lenny and Adam before, of course,  but had never seen Ms. Cummings perform and she is HYSTERICAL.  You might have seen her on Chelsea Handler or Conan or heard her on Howard Stern, but if not, you will see her on something soon because she is going to be very famous.

Calling It A Day

I had a full day.

I was up with the dawn because the puppy needed to go out and the animals all needed to be fed before I headed off to be on a television show.  I was co-host on Better Connecticut with Scot Haney again today and I couldn’t possibly have had more fun.  Here’s a clip that I was able to lift from the web.  I was given a DVD of the entire show and would like to figure out how to load clips from it onto the blog, because we had a woman celebrating her 102nd birthday on the show and she was amazing.  She was beautiful and bright and lighthearted and she had hand-crocheted the most intricately worked lace doilies for us.  I just loved meeting her. She was born in 1908.

Better Connecticut

Today, I will be on Better Connecticut, not as a guest, but as a co-host, with one of my favorite television personalities, Scot Haney.  If you live in Connecticut it’s on WFSB-TV at 3:00.

I’m slightly competitive by nature and when I spoke to Melissa, the show’s producer, I asked her who we were up against.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“Ratings-wise,” I said, “because if it’s that Dr. Phil, we’re taking him down.”

She told me that our biggest competitor in our marketplace (listen to me – our marketplace – I actually think I’m on this show now) is General Hospital.

Tribeca Film Festival

Last night Denis took my sister Meg and me to the opening festivities for the Tribeca Flm Festival.  It was a great night.  We saw many old friends and it was the first time Meg had attended an event like that with us so the two of us were cracking up the whole time that Denis was doing stuff like this:

And we were doing stuff like this:

Okay, now you know.  I only have one fancy party skirt.  And I’ve been photographed in it a million times.  The same skirt, boots and jacket, actually.  Well, they’re fancy!

Anniversary Issue

In honor of the 2nd anniversary of the blog that I never thought I’d bother with after the first few entries, I’m going to post a few links to some earlier entries, so that you all can see how I’ve grown as a blogsteress.  How I’ve blossomed.

This is a personal favorite, about how I tried to help Moby with his musical career.

Notice how I, a) shamelessly name-dropped, and b) provided links with all the celebrities’ names.  Somebody had told me that when you link to a famous person or thing, anybody who searches for that person will be instantly brought to your site.  Oh those were innocent, glorious, heady times.

Bonjour!

parislights

Yes, we have arrived safely in Paris.  But, on our way here, we stopped in New York to attend the annual benefit for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. I’m too exhausted right now to go into detail about two of the most inspirational, intelligent, funny and truly beautiful people I know – Tracy Pollan and Michael Fox, but one day I will devote a blog to the work that these two have done toward finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.  If you’ve read either of Michael’s books, you know he’s a true optimist and he believes that a cure will be found but also believes you must work hard for what you want, so, to date, his foundation has raised 170 million dollars toward that goal.  Last night he raised a little bit more with the help of some friends.

Oh……You’re Back

Guess who stopped by again? This guy (warning, it’s Bonehead).  Steve knew that if he buried it, the dogs would dig it up again so I guess he hung it high in a tree, deep in the woods.  Today, it was back on our front lawn, being tossed back and forth between the two dogs.  How did it come out of the woods? My guess is that it used its fangs and sort of dragged itself along, grinning and leering, teeth clacking, all the way down our driveway to where the dogs awaited
